So I have a Pug 206 GLX 1.6 Petrol on a 2000 Plate.

Recently I have noticed a hell of alot of noise coming from the engine bay I took the car into a garage and he informed me that my power steerting pump was on its way out and because the job was too big he would not be able to do it. He also told me that my front down pipe was held on by 2 bolts and had 2 holes in other locations. he quoted me £66 to replace the downpipe this should i hope stop some of the noise from the engine bay.

However more recently the car has been stalling when changing gear or stationary at traffic lights it gives no warning it just loses power and stalls, the other day it took me in excess of 10 minutes to restart the car while driving myself and my son home it broke down next to some traffic lights which didnt help the situation i got out and pushed it onto the kerb.

Also when starting the car i smell petrol very strong smell its not coming through the vents so i dont suspect a leak but wanted some advice.

In the bad weather we had the other month my oil breather pipe split and so this is currently not attatched nor is it blocked off can i ask what the purpose of this pipe is and should it be attatched or blocked off if not being used.

I could take a video of my engine running so you can hear the sounds its making if this will help but i just need to know would the car stall if breather pipe not connect, exhaust hanging off and would these cause smell of petrol

any advice would be appreciated.

and how big a job is replacing the power steering pump.

If it aint broke, break it and make it better.

The power steering pump is pretty simple to change on the 206.
Its on the top with easy access, its not exactly rocket silence to change it then bleed the system.

Id be worried about a garage that cant even do that simple task. Wink

Its not that simple the subframe has to be lowered in order to remove it.
