I have an ipod one connected to standard HU. Wouldnt recommend...works well enough but volume is very low compared to when HU is on radio or CD.
Haven't seen or heard anyone else report this issue though so it may just be mine!?

If you want to retain the existing HU, I'd recommend one with the actual iPod connector on (they are nearer £50), as you can change tracks from the steering wheel controls, and the volume level is correct.

I've got the iPod connector version, since I wanted to keep the standard stereo rather than get a new one. iPod specific version makes the steering wheel controls work as well as can be expected for a head unit that knows nothing about an iPod (treats it as a CD changer). Also means you'll probably never have to charge your iPod again. Really pleased with mine. Whether its right for you or not depends on what you want. You might get more from a new head unit (though you might have to spend extra to keep steering wheel controls), but if you want to keep the standard head unit then this (or the iPod specific version) is going to be a lot more reliable than an FM transmitter.

Mine seems fine, certainly I get distortion due to crappy standard speakers before I hit max volume on the head unit, so don't see any point worrying about the volume level of the input.

Thats ridiculous, just bought one for the scenic, £8 delivered off ebay, i'd shop around you must be able to get them cheaper. As for sound quality, the scenic is the same with the phone plugged into it as it is with the CD.

Ebay. Use the Connects2 website to check the model number, then do an ebay search for it.
