Hi, the immobalizer on my girlfriends 1.4 LX 2000 w reg is playing up. Since I put a new Battery on I have to take a lead off for a couple of minutes before the immobalizer will let the engine start. I have tried all resets that are mentioned on here but still no joy. Every time the car is locked with the remote and then unlocked it will not start until I disconnect the battery and then try again.
Also when it wont start and I have turned the ignition back off I can here the fuel pump in the tank buzzing. even when I have taken the key out and got out of the car. Help needed please.

Sounds a strange one mate, when you say buzzing could it be fuel being returned to the tank because even if immobilised the pump still primes up the fuel rail, its the spark which is cut out.
As for the immobiliser fault try locking/unlocking with key only and see if it helps, it could narrow it down if it does, otherwise maybe transponder aerial on ignition barrel or the key itself, hard to help over the net with these faults if you have tried resets etc
did you follow correct way of battery removal ie power down BSI etc??

Thanks for your replies. I have now found out that something is also flattening the battery overnight. I put a new battery on yesterday thinking that it was knackered due to the cold weather but found out today after all the problems that the new battery has gone flat as well. Anybody any ideas linking the two things together ? i.e. Fully charged battery and immobaliser not allowing starting and then battery going flat overnight ? Totally stumped now.
Cheers. ![Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad](images/smiles/icon_cry.gif)

could be boot light, would explain why you didnt notice it when locking the car up.
A test you can do if you have a multimeter is disconnect the negative lead and connect your meter 1) onto negative battery cable 2) the negative battery post, this will show the draw on the battery make sure its set to amps and see how much current draw is going on ideally obviously it should read 0, if not something is taking power
ensure ignition off and all doors are shut too!

you mentioned about the buzzing sound, i wonder if your fuel pump or relay is receiving constant live whereby its either running all the time or the relay is held in the on position causing a big current draw???
anybody else think it could be plausible, just thought about that buzzing sound you mentioned in OP

You could well be right SDK206. I will check it with my multimeter tomorrow if there's enough in the battery to register, otherwise I'll have to charge it again first.

yes mate give it a good charge if its down on charge as results won't be accurate if the battery is nigh on dead

Need to check the Fuel Pump Relay. They're known to be dodgy. Noticed a ticking from what I thought was the ECU. Apparently the Relay is underneath it. Would make sense because I dont think the ECU is going to sound exactly like a Relay ? The Fuel Pump was working when I was outside the car so I'm thinking it has gone faulty and caused the battery to go flat overnight as well as intermittent starting which I thought was the immobaliser.
Any thoughts please anybody ?
Cheers Maz.

Checked Fuel Pump and Ignition Multi-Relay underneath the ECU. Found that it had a hole in it where it had broken off its mounting lug. It was full of water. Just bought a new one (Dealer only !! £42 ). When the battery is charged up again, hopefully everything will be back to normal. Stands to reason it's sorted, thanks to a load of useful information on here. I'll post again when I've tried it after battery is charged.
Thanks for all your help, and I hope this is of use to others, as it seems to be a pretty common fault.
Cheers Maz.

Thanks again SDK206.
I will post my final result tomorrow. Hopefully it will be to say everything is now working properly again.
