Hi all my head gasket went a while ago and im in the process of reassembling the cylinder head ready to fit the new head gasket and have got to the point of bolting the coolant/thermostat back onto the cylinder head.
The question i have is if there is a gasket/seal for the housing as when i took it off it looked like it had been sealed with silicone sealant. If there isnt a gasket/seal for the housing would it be a case of resealing with silicone sealant?
Thanks in advance.

Wynns Instant gasket is good stuff.

Can i ask which surfaces you applied it too as the housing has remains of silcone or something similar in the threads and unsure whether to apply in the threads again on reasembly.

Does it not use a normal gasket? The GTi thermostat housing does.

Not that i can see on service box, if i was to replace a gasket with sealant i would just apply it to the face of the housing. The only thing making me think otherwise is the fact that there is silcone in the bolt holes and on the inside edge of the housing.
