Hi, I have just been working on some of the niggly faults in the my car and this one has me stumped.

Both of the rear clips that hold the rear seats upright were not holding. I found that the plastic collar around both pull tag things were loose. After trial and error I found that to refit these you aim the handle part of them out of the boot and then screw them into the metal receptacle.

This fixed the drivers side, but the passenger side still gives when you give the seat a little shove. I found that if I keep my hand on the release tag, it resists the shove. This leads me to believe that there should be a rubber tensioner or something built into the clip, and it has failed. Is this how the clip works?

To fix it, I am guessing that I can remove the rear seat, dismantle it then fashion something out of an old bike innertube to keep the pressure on. Does this sound reasonable?

Cheers, and sorry for the rambling post...

-- Phil

You reckon these clips are unrepairable?

Found a new rear seat for £20, but I would be chucking 75% of it away. Feels wrong.

Gotta admit, I was looking at a half leather set. Only two things stopped me, no door cards and the fact my GF drives this car most of the time Smile

Didn't think of doing that. Only had the seats down 3 times in 12 months.

Ended up just getting the replacement rear seats. Fitted them past night. Really easy job. As a bonus the replacements had headrests. It now closes rock solid.

How do I flag this as closed / resolved?

For anyone finding this through the search, replacing the seats didn't help as much as I hoped. A good shove would cause them to open, and caused my MOT to fail.

The solution was painless (after swapping the interior out 4 or 5 times : ( )

Next to the seat clip there is a rubber stopper. My guess is that with age, these things expand by a couple of mm. This prevented the seat from fully closing. A pair of pliers and a good tug soon fixed this.

I may sand it down and refit it if I hear any rattles.
