Hey guys,

My problem is, my engine gets really hot, I drove from my parents house back to mine and the water temp gauge on the rev counter went up to the notch between 90 and red.
I opened the bonnet, and took off the cap on the coolant bottle and it spewed out a load of coolant.

Any ideas?

Edit: My parents house is only 3 miles away

Well first of all,you did something wrong by opening the coolant cap off while the temp is high, that got water inside the bottle cold burn you very badly, and also make the coolant temp goes down very fast which is bad for the engine, because I'm sure you added water after that, and that water is called,so hot engine+cold water=crack.

Back to your question, the temp between 90 and the red mark, you can be more specific, because most pugs reach 97oC,then the fan kicks in,and drop it back to 90,so if that was your case, then nothing to worry about, but if your fan didn't work, and the temp kept on going higher, then you got something wrong with your fans.

i didnt add water, i just left it. the expansion bottle was still over the max level after the spew.

My fan works, but the temp still goes higher.

Check the Temp Control Valve on Engine Block? You might need a new one! Either remove it and clean wit a de-greaser and put back in place. Or Buy new one from Euro Car Parts or GSF Car Parts.

I had same problem last year.,It turned out that the Rad had a very, v, small leak, so over a period of time the coolant level had dropped enough for all Gauges to read v, high. As coolant level was far too low. I replaced my Rad for a new one. And I got a new Temp Control Valve fitted at same time. No probs now, all good.

Renew the thermostat and also check that the electric radiator fan is operating correctly (the sensor-switch may be faulty)
