not that it matters too much with this car...i know this may shock everyone with my last two threads but the centre displays in the car dont work either..going to have a look at fixing them as not certain if it just needs new bulbs or a new display...and this is why i always said never buy a car from the auction!!!. lesson learned and all that |
PPT 30 display, they all fail sooner or later its a very common problem on the non plexed 206's
There is a known fault where 2 pins break of the printed cricuit board, solder them back on carefully to get the back lights working again.
Here's the forum How To thanks to DJ:

The white plug that appears from out behind the doorcard is the original Pug wiring.
Outside temp sensor & heated glass is standard on the GTI
Temp sensor should be in the passenger side mirror.
Soldering iron & heatshrink FTW
You need 5 wires for the drivers mirror & 7 on the passengers.
They MAY be 2 extra wires in the plugs on the car side of the loom, they will be for electric folding mirrors. |
always one for the easiest idea, if that is the original wiring coming out of the doorcard, if i get original gti mirrors will it have the white connector on to plug straight in meaning i can get rid of all the dodgy wiring or not.
also if it is that simple does that mean i would get the geated glass and temp sensor working!!
as for the ppt30 repair think i may have to look for a how too on that
is that the same for the climate control light as that still works it is just very faded (the one further down which shows the outline of a car)

Climate control lights will be the backlight bulbs, I think there's a how to somewhere on the forum but there pretty easy to do.
For the mirror's just make sure you match the connector plug colour ( white in your case ) & they will plug straight in to the connector on the car, the one thats sticking up from behind the door card.
Heated mirror glass works when the rear window demister is switched on.
Outside temp display will work BUT you need to get the multifunction screen working as well ![Wink Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif)

well thats easy enough, will have to get rid of my 206 mirrors now so i can get some proper gti ones..anybody know why i have got one with the white connector and one with a brown connector.
that is a perfect example of why if you dont know what you are doing get somebody who does, or ask lots of questions on here ![Very Happy Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)

Because there's been 2 different types of connector plugs used on the 206 so they colour code them to make it easy to tell the difference ![Wink Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif)

MrBSI & meady you are both legends!!! thanks for all the help and the new info.
Wish i had known about the two different connectors beforehand
Anyway for my next thread...
For Sale.. 1 x pair of 206 mirrors with odd conectors..will look good in any garage as they cant fit on your car
Also some after market m3 style mirrors..perfect condition with dog chewed wiring thrown in free of charge.
Will take £200ono for everything or may be willing to split for the right price ![Very Happy Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)

Just cut the connectors off and solder & heat shrink the wires.
You only need the connectors if your gunna keep changing the mirrors

cheers for the reply lee.
to be honest though i am really not diy minded at all unless i am shown how to do it or get shown pictures that i can follow so wouldn't have a clue what to do..plus i would have to buy the stuff to do it.
to save time and money think it will be easier to sell the 206 mirrors i have now, scrap the after market ones and then buy some gti one's so that they just plug straight in

well if you have after market mirrors fitted, and you want to fit the original mirrors on,then all you have to do it a Plug & Play job, because the new mirrors you gonna buy, will have new plugs with them,so take the old mirrors out,and plug the new ones, because from what I see in the pic u posted is that the main blugs that is fixed to the doors is in very good condition,so no work needed there,so it's very simple.
