I have just tested the old thermostat in boiling water and it opens before boiling and then is fully open when water is boiling then when i take it out it closes so seems to be working fine.I shall leave the new 1 in that is what the normal temperature should be.

my pug gets up to just above 90. i.e. 93 like you said. then the fan kicks in to take it back down to 90ish, it always sits at 90 when idling. and about 80 when driving around due to the air cooling the engine.

putting the the Theromstat in boiling water is not a good test I believe, because it's diff. when Fitted on the car,and the coolant circle makes it work as it should,so it's not accurate, and as they guys said,it may not close well,or it stays open.

on the other hand, the temp you are getting with the new thermostat is the right one,it should be on 90,and the fan kick between 93-97,so you did the right thing by changing it,when you flushed the coolant, and do this every year,so that you don't face problems with the temp, cuz Thermostat can sometime stay open, and car stay cold,OR sometimes get stuck and don't open at all, which can damage your engine and head gasket for a start Smile

We have been out in the car and the temperature rises to 90 then falls straight back down to 80 then rises again to 90 does this every so often.Could this be the temp sensor that also needs changing?

If you are worried, just shove the old one back in

Mine sits about 80 odd all the time, but rises occasionally

dude! seriously lol its TOTALLY FINE. yours is now doing exactly what mine does, gets up to 90, down to 80, up to 93 in traffic, fan kicks in, down to 90, or 80 if you start driving due to air cooling.

if it doesnt go above 97 it wont damage the engine due to heat. the engine likes to be nice and warm, just not too hot lol.

the new one is working fiiinnee Razz

OK another update. When the car has been run and temp gets to 90 and we arrive at our destination turn engine off. Then when you turn ignition on but not to start the engine the temp gauge goes straight to 100 and then comes down to around 90.I thought it was the coolant sensor so changed it but no different.Any ideas?
