I cant remember if I posted a topic about this before but I thought I would now that ive solved it!

Ive recently seen a few topics about annoying rattles from the engine bay / front of the car which dont really sound like a knocking but are quite loud, sort of like a fast hollow shaking noise when going over bumps etc.

Ive had one whenever the car is first used for about the first 15 minutes (esp during a cold morning) for about a year and have finally solved it!

Turns out it was the header tank rattleing in its holder (even though when checking it it felt secure). It could even have been rattling against the bonnet I guess?

During a coolant change the tank was removed and cleaned (another story lol) but when putting the tank back on the noise has gone!

Im guessing it went away after 15 mins because the hot coolant expanded the tank to fill up the vibation gap.

yay!

hope this helps anyone with a similar problem

after a year of a LOUD (could hear it over stereo on) rattle from the engine bay for the first 15 mins of driving, which 4 garages including pug couldnt work out what it was, its such a relief its gone. Even though it was fixed by accident lol.

For some time I thought maybe an engine mount had broke and it was the engine hitting the actual car lol but couldnt understand why it went away after 15 mins every time, makes sense it was the coolant heating up Wink

Yay!
