It's one of the reasons why taxi's charge so much, its because the car maintenance bills are so high with the constant short journeys.

Thanks everyone, it put my mind at rest. I shall let the car warm up for a few minutes before going on my short journeys from now on
As for diesels, can the 1.9 live as long as the 2.0 hdi?
You hear about volvos that have a million miles on the clock, is the 2.0 hdi a contender? My grandad has one and says it should outlive the bodywork
Are 138s/180 doomed to a short life? As I have heard they are delicate |
I'm not sure it's that there delicate, more that most of them live an abused life lol.

do not idle to warm the car up.
during idle the oil pressure is at min. it will not lubricate the top bit of the engine well

Just take it for a decent drive at high speed every now and then to clear the CAT out

My 2001 1.4 is on 108K it had no service from 56 K untill I bought it at 81K. It's not the most well looked after, I do service it, but smooth driving is more of a treat to the car rather more so than me treating myself to a "spirritied drive" shall we say

I see, I often get errands that involve driving less than 2 miles, turn off, on then go back home, aside from transmission can that kill an engine? |
That reminds me, can you drop an eighth off to me tomorrow lol

it totally depends on how the cars been driven, how often its been serviced, what engines in it, and how its been looked after, ive seen some with close to 200K on them, but ive seen a LOT more that have been scrapped at closer to 80k for one reason or another lol
