They're not fast, they're not stylish and don't look good in any way at all, they are mostly ridiculously impractical, they have some kind of 'cult' following as if they are amazing, when in reality, they're not at all, they fall to bits just like any other car, so, in the words of Duncan Bannatyne, I'm out.

Don't argue the opinions of idiots.
They will bring you down to their level and win through experience.

No they're not fast and were never designed to be. The good thing is though you can drop a variety of different engine sizes in if you so wished, the engines can be taken out in minutes aswell which amazed me when I first found out. Whether they look good comes down to opinion but let's be honest, it's a classic design, designed by Ferdinand Porsche and 911's share the same design principles to this day, or to quote Clarkson the 911 is a 'squashed Beetle'. It's the longest running production car the world has seen, and also the biggest selling car of a single design, can't be bad can it!

They are renowned for their build quality just as VW's still are to this day, they have their problems like any other car but they're screwed together well and have a quality feel! As to why they have a cult following I guess could be down to a few reasons, the build quality, the fact they were a cheap way of getting on the road in your very own car, and maybe just the fact the Beetle has been with us since the 1940's. Herbie aswell, the hippies with their camper vans etc!

Personally, I've grown to love them as I fancy something different, something with loads of character, I think it would be an interesting car to own and drive, and the bonus is they're tax free and can be insured for peanuts. I'm also obsessed with stance, and I love the look of a stanced Beetle.

And surely everyone loves a split screen camper van?! Absolutely iconic cars, bags of charm and character.

I don't know what you're trying to say, the majority of the comments have been positive. I didn't realise that owning a 206 automatically meant you hated old VW's. How silly of me. Rolling Eyes

Don't worry Ross, if you went on a vw site and said you went to a peugeot show you would just get laughed off the forum.

It's nothing new - bit like supporting a football team Laughing

I really like the old VW's with minimalistic engine bays. No wiring on show or surplus stuff like batteries etc. They look really good. They are big budget cars though.

The cars with rotten, dented bodywork and stupid suspension drops cost no money, take no skill or knowledge to build. Interesting cars are those which we aspire to create for ourselves. Why anybody would deliberately try to build a crap car I do not know.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

The 'stupid suspension drops' generally look cool though, low cars look cool. As for the bodywork, some of them are left purposely if it's original paint to preserve their patina, the green oval at the top just looks 'right' to me, I'm not saying I wouldn't go for a respray if it were mine but at the same time it looks pretty cool how the bodywork shows its age.

I'm not sure what you think constitutes a 'crap car' and what constitutes an interesting car.

Do people need to justify their opinion if it differs from yours?
You won't convert everyone to slammed old VW's, accept the fact that taste varies Rolling Eyes

I've already accepted it mate, but when people are saying things like 'it's like my worse nightmare come true', naturally I'm intrigued as to their reasons behind such comments. Is that ok with you?

Like I say I'm intrigued. Saying something is your worst nightmare is a pretty extreme comment to make, so I'd like to know the reason why. I don't think that's unreasonable, nor am I saying their opinion is wrong. It's just vague.
