Hi All,

I have had my 206 sw 1.4 petrol for about 6 months. its a 53 reg.

First fault that happened - Airbag warning lights beep and flash randomly every time I drive the car.

Second fault - Windscreen wipers go and occasionally water squirters go too. (Not everytime I drive the car but pretty regularly)

Third Fault - Headlights come on and wont go off after I turn the engine off but eventually go off after car has sat for about 5 mins. Usually happens in conjunction with the windscreen wipers. Car will then not lock and cant use radio controls on the steering wheel.

Fourth Fault - Whilst driving along there is a dip in power, engine warning light comes on and car dies. Have to pull over (pretty scary on the motorway trying to coast to the hard shoulder!) After about 3 mins the car will re start when key is turned. If you try before then it wont start but will turn over. This happens about once a week.

Any help much appreciated.

Wipers and lights could be faulty comms unit or windscreen sensor.

What model is yours?

Fourth has happened to me twice but not for a while. When was it last serviced?

Last service was just before I bought the car. As for the model I only know that its a silver 53 reg 206sw petrol (sorry not great with cars, all my other cars have been company cars and I havent had to worry about them) The windscreen wipers also vary their speed.

2nd and 3rd fault i had this on my 307 i took the battery out and unpluged the ecu then reconected it and it sorted it out. if you try that follow the right way to take the battery out and put it back on.

First 3 faults seem to point to a faulty com2000 unit which is the indicator / wiper stalk unit OR old buggy BSI software.

4th fault could be caused by all or any of these:

NGK spark plugs being fitted = bin the NGK's & fit Bosch spark plugs.

Sagem coil pack fitted = bin the Sagem coil & fit a Bouricord coil.

Coil pack earth wire mod not fitted = fit it, the part is cheap from any Peugeot / Citroen main dealer - Part number is 6555 K9 Condensor £5.29 including the VAT - attach one end of the condensor to wire 4 on the coil pack connector plug & earth the other end of the condensor.

Engine ecu software version = ecu software update + get BSI software updated at same time!

Silicone grease on engine ecu connectors = clean it out.

Do you go anywhere near Sheffield? Lee on here has the Peugeot Planet diagnostic kit that can scan the car throughly & he is a lot cheaper then a Peugeot main dealer.

Have a look on your V5 for your model. Should be LX,GLX,Zest,Quicksilver or similar. Then we can find out if you have auto wipers/lights etc. Which in turn wil help tell where the problem is.

Next i was going to say what MrBSI said. Check plugs & coil pack. Plugs should be Bosch. Nothing else. Also if you know someone local who has another coil pack you could try might be an idea. I personally have a sagem coilpack and have had no issues. But for peace of mind if you do need to buy one, try get a Bouricord one.

If you do live close to Sheffield or don't mind travelling, it would be well worth you time to pay Lee to give the car a once over with his diagnostic gear. And as said, even if you include travelling costs, it will be miles cheaper than taking it to a dealer. By doing this you also have the benefit of Lee's knowledge and experience. Which tbh is invaluable.

A faulty light / rain sensor wont activate the front washers OR keep the headlamps on after the engine is switched off Wink

OP states the headlamps come on but wont go off till 5 minutes after engine is stopped.

Normal light sensor fault the headlamps will come on & stay on until the engine is switched off, they wont stay on with the engine not running if its the light sensor at fault.

The safety default for the light sensor is headlamps on all the time with engine running.

So if the default is headlamps running all the time while engine running, will they not stay on like they do in the follow me home aspect? (I know that the engine isn't running for this before anyone says lol.)

I Had this problem with my 1.4 last week, sprayed a bit of WD40 (strange i know) into the comms unit, cuz i read on a forum that someone had exactly the same problem & apparently iron filings fall onto the circuit board and cause your car to do crazy things (windscreen wipers etc.)so gave it a go and it stopped doing it.

i thought it was my CD player so unclipped it for a few days and everything was running okay without it plugged in, decided put my faceplate back on today and whatta you know its running smoothly.

it did say on the forum though that you have to do it every 12months or so Smile

Lee did tell me my comms unit was knackered and i needed a new one but my pugs working fine now

Dunno if that helps Smile

Cool, will try some or all of the things suggested. If I disconnect the battery does that effect the factory fitted stereo in any way? e.g. do I need a code?

Also what is the 'right' way to disconnect the battery? or do I just go ahead and pull the terminal connectors off?

I am miles from sheffield. I am down in Warwickshire.

Shut the BSI down first using the procedure on this site. it's either stickied somewhere or you can search for it.

The radio is VIN coded so it will not need a code and should also remember the stations.

I still think you need a new COM, don't think that 'fix' will last long

apparently you have to do it every 12 months or so, if the problem arises again i'll just go buy a new Com Smile
