After recently replacing the head gasket I took the car for a test drive, initially it felt great, but then started spluttering, eventually cutting out.
While the engine was running it seemed the top end was pressurized, where as the bottom wasnt.
The RAC guy thought it was the head gasket again, I recognise it may be this because I didnt skim the head, but why would it run great then suddenly badly?
Could it be the drive belt may have jumped pne notch? (long shot but ever the optimist).
The car is 1.4 petrol.
Thanks
Dave

if the belt was tensioned right than it could jump a tooth.

if the belt wasnt tensioned it would jump a tooth and if you didnt skim the head or clean the block / head then water / oil will easily get through and f*** another head gasket knowing this as when i trained as a mechanic i had to fix a few (bodges) 1 including a cerial box (it dosnt work on newer cars guys)!!
