Your Open Question: Peugeot 206 steering problem - steering feels extremely light! Please help?

Hi, wondering if anyone can help me. I bought a Peugeot 206 1.4 verve '03 reg a few weeks ago and since I've got it the steering hasn't been right. It feels very loose and almost like I am driving on ice when going over 30mph. It feels like the car is swaying and the back end is moving out when turning corners but my road position is fine. It just feels very floaty and is a pain as I don't feel comfortable going over 40mph as I feel like I could veer off the road at any moment. I thought it might be a problem with the tires or wheels and I had them checked out today but everything is fine. The car was previously in a bad accident and was hit from behind. Could this be causing the problem? It almost feels like there is a problem with the suspension. Please help I'm scared to drive my new car and it's taken the fun out of my driving! Laura

Could be few things that cause it but 1st thing I would look at is the wishbones, see what the bushes and ball joint are like, make sure there is not much play.

Maybr get the wheel bearing checked as I had a faulty bearing that also caused same once, just idea.

If you "feel like you're driving on ice" then you may have something similar happening where there is very much less tyre grip in contact with the road due to wheel misalignment

You say you "had your wheels and tyres checked" but especially as the car has had a major read ender then have you had a 4 wheel alignment check?

Trust your instincts because it shouldn't feel like that at all and the suspension and steering needs a proper check over carried out by someone who knows what they're doing
