Hi,
I posted on here that my CC was overheating.
Did a compression test and one cyclendar was much lower than rest.
Paid 374 to main dealer to head gasket change which was by far cheapest quote.
Then had car back.... Still overheated.... Just collected today got stung 141 quid for resistor and labour as slow speed fan wasnt working.
Should slow speed fan always be on? Looks like it kicks in around 92'c is that right?

Why did the dealer even release the car back to you with a defective cooling system?
Car gets brought in over heating & with head gasket gone, doesnt take a genius to work out somethings wrong with the cooling system.
Slow speed fan comes on around 92 deg C
The slow speed fan will also run if the air con / climate control system is switched on.

The terminals on the relays always corrode and the wiring could even be broken without you knowing as it was on mine. I'd never heard the high speed fan in 7 years of owning it.

Hi,
You're spot on thats exactly how I felt which is why I felt I should double check all their work after the 2nd visit. Glad 92c is the point as that's what is happening so should all be good now.

If you slow speed fan fails your high speed fan will kick in at around 100c however if like me your high speed fan comes on whilst stuck in rush hour traffic you may find all the high speed fan will do is get you home to face a big repair bill.

If you're slow speed fan fails then it might be the coolant sensor that's reading the incorrect value.
If the resistor has failed then normally the fan will be at high speed even if the ECU thinks it's at low speed
