Hi.

This is my first post so please bear with me.. Cool Site !

Yesterday on my way home from work when approaching a junction I changed down from 4th to 3rd and lifted the clutch pedal. a loud knock was heard but car kept going fine. pulled up outside house, no sign of a problem. In the morning I went to drive it and the clutch pedal feels different.

When put into forward gears from a standstill {all five are affected - just as a test}. the clutch reaches its biting point and then seems to snap up without moving the pedal any higher and stalls the engine. If revved to 3000rpm the front wheels spin and the car, "when moving" drives fine ??? if its in reverse from a standstill it works fine ? Please help as my local garage has no idea what it could be and no luck so far on google.

Cheers.
Scott Perry.

Will either be the clutch cable auto adjustor failed or more likely the release bearing has eaten its way through the pressure plate spring fingers.

Hi MrBSI.

Thanks for the reply !

How would I know if its the auto adjuster ? Is there a way to tell if its definately that or the other possibility ?

Cheers

solved ***

The cause of this problem was down to one little component. The engine mount had broken away from the gearbox causing the engine to twist when under strain. Replaced mount and all is perfect again.

Cheers.
