If you drive a car, you should be able to replace a part that costs £58 without batting an eyelid. You should have money put aside as a "repair fund" I keep £1000 aside for any repairs but parts can be expensive for mine.
Just go and get the part from the dealer, then start putting a few quid a month away for any future repairs ![Wink Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif)

Unless I can go and take the part off at a breakers myself then I don't touch them. They are usually butchers who don't give a toss about the customer as long as they get their money. Things like engine mounts should always be bought new, you have no way of knowing if the second hand one has a hairline crack in it or has been warped in a crash.
The added bonus of going to your local parts department is that they get to know you and after a while you can get a small discount from them. I've also heard that some dealers have nice hot chocolate although their customer service stinks.
Go into the dealer with your 9639592480 part number and ask them how much a new one is. They hate it when you go in armed with a part number. Take a friend who can hold a video camera because I want to see how long the dealer will stand there and argue with you that it's not on their system, and when you start with the attitude with them, it will be funny seeing you being tossed out onto the forecourt

It won't be in their system, as for the millionth time it's a Bosch part number.

Id gloat if i had a ferrari but this is simply £58, why would i gloat about that,
anyway like any other would agree that replacing a major component that holds the engine and drive shaft in place with a second hand part is foolish |
I respect your opinion, but in my own opinion if the second hand part was in first class condition I don't see a problem.
I didn't mention your name with regard to gloating.

thanks for the advice. Unfortunately you don't have the full picture regarding my expenses so far on the vehicle in the last month, nor do you know anything about other dramatic financial set backs during the previous year, that has lead to my current financial embarrassment (e.g. banks going bust, stocks being wiped out, unemployment, long term illnesses, property values slumping etc.). So, I can't just get the part from the dealer without batting an eye lid.

Actually it transpires that the drive shaft hole (on the replacement) wasn't a problem after all as my daughter had measured the shaft input flange on my old bracket and the shaft output flange on the replacement item (in error!) ~ but it still didn't fit because it's an inch thicker through the securing bolt holes which pushes the drive shaft an inch out of alignment from the gearbox input flange!

So sell the car. A guy at work split from his misses and could barely afford his contribution to the mortgage and to run his C4 VTR so he sold the car ![Wink Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif)
And property values slumping has f*cked him up too, his ex Mrs has declared herself bankrupt, he cant afford all the mortgage, so the house is being sold and they will owe approx 40k between them!
As a last resort, there's always PAYDAY UK ![Shocked Shocked](images/smiles/icon_eek.gif)

I am thinking of selling it but I'm not prepared to sell it for next to nothing for the sake of an engine mount & full MOT. My choice.
Yes, there are a lot of other people in the same (financial) boat as me; I'm not the only one.
Cheers bud.
