What are the symptoms of a failing map sensor, the 206 still smells like its running a little rich. It could just be me thinking it smells though... It's a 1.4 8v none plex and I've changed the plugs to Bosch, pug air filter, the coolant temp sensor and the thermostat, all I can think of now is the map. I'm tempted to get a used one or cheap one from eBay, there is no miss fire and the plugs didn't look a bad colour

Try & get an exhaust emissions test done on it & see what the readings are, for example it could be lambda sensor on its way out but not gone out of spec enough to throw up a fault code.

Liam - thanks for the offer, I'll go for the lambda sensor first, well emissions and take it from there, mpg is 35mpg at the minute.

This makes me happy. I was beginning to think it was time to start fault finding my daughters 1.4 8V. It runs sweet as a nut but only does 29mpg on short daily 5 mile runs.

Are these really this poor - she is not a fast driver.

Note: car fully serviced with new filters, plugs, oils etc. 1,000 miles ago and only 50,000 on the clock.

Morris 1000, Austin 1100, Escort Mk2, Fiat Mirafiori, Alfa 33, Alfa GT Junior, Alfasud, Alfetta GTV (2x), Alfa 164 3.0 V6, Alfa 164 2.0, Alfa 75 V6, Alfa 156 2.4 (diesel remapped 200bhp), Alfa 147 GTA (3.6 295bhp), Alfa 159 (diesel remapped 245bhp 300ft.lbs @ 2500rpm)
Why isn't my daughter an Alfaholic?

My daily run is 14 miles each way, 2 miles at 30mph, 8 at 70 mph then the remainder at 40/30 the polo was really good. That 35 was calculated with a blowing exhaust, open thermostat and old plugs and filter. Let's see if I can get it to 40 mpg
