Just brought a 1999 Peugeot 206 Xs 1.6 with 26,000 mi on the clock after selling my heap of junk Ford Focus
Not sure if it's just because it's an older car and I'm not used to it or if there is something wrong with it, but I'm having to rev pretty high in every gear to get up to speed - think 4,000 revs in 5th for 70 mph - 4,000 revs for 40 mph in 3rd
It's just had a new exhaust system fitted to get it through the MOT and it is blowing a bit - could this be causing this problem due to lack of pressure, or is it just me being paranoid after having such a cruddy car for the past 4 months?
Cheers in advance

yeah that's what I was thinking - 2000 revs seems way to low I'm looking at about 3000 in 3rd for 30 mph?
- how does your car perform on motorways - does 4000 rpm sound about right for 70 mph? Just seems a bit off to me but it could just be because it's an older car and I'm coming from an 05 plate focus
It seems to go like slop off a shovel from a dead start if you floor it - but just feels a bit flappy when you're trying to get it to 100

As for revs I can't remember what my 1.6 did but seems quite high ish I guess.
Might just be due a good service.

Any idea if it's had a gearbox change? Could be using one from a different engine (e.g. 1.1). Wouldn't have thought your car would need to be doing 3k in 3rd to do 30 (considering my 1.4 does 40 at that rpm and gear)

1.4 has the longest gearbox in petrol 206 range

I'll double check on the way home in 20 min pretty sure that's what got my eyebrows raising in the first place though - 30mph is nothing - I've got full service history, the only thing that's really been changed engine wise is a cracked rocker cover by Peugeot in 2008 and the exhaust recently for the MOT - you never know though... but from the mileage etc the things been sat in the garage since 1999 - the gearbox does feel clunky but apparently that's just a pug gearbox lol
Can you fit 17's as standard? without any annoying mods to the body - I've got my eye on some 16' wolframs with black spokes and chrome trim, they look sweet as on 206's

Guess it's just an old car - getting used to it the more I drive it, and liking the acceleration - even if the revs are too damn high!
