Hi, ive got a 1.4 8v with rear drums and just bought a gti 138 for spares and repairs. i want to put the rear axle off the 138 which has rear discs. Is it a straight swap with just changing the handbrake cables or more too it. Ive tried to search for it but no look.

Ive just swapped one from a quicksilver... An all it was is abit of adjusting and cables and brake lines my mechanic said, well dads mate lol so faily easy swap

I think the brake lines are different on the 138. I think they might be shorter but I'm not sure

all 206 use the same flexi brake hose.

as at the end of the day you still need the copper brake line between the caliper and the flexi pipe

onHi Chilly, Although Im new here ive had a fair bit of experiance of of rear axle swapping, especially on my HDI and my Other halfs 1.4 lx.

PLEASE NOTE: Does the GTI axle have abs, and does your 1.4 Have abs as well??????? Thers an MOT issue here as ive found in the past. Some testers will fail it if your car does'not have abs and the axle does as there is a problem with using parts that cannot function correctly.Ie the abs cannot be connected into a system. Some testers will look at it as a advisery but some fail it. My Brother used to advise it if your car was never fitted with abs as std at manufacture. Youll have to ask your regular Mot guy for his views.

Ive just done the swap on my HDi to disc, and its pretty much a straight swap. I would swap the load balancer for a new one while you have the axles off as they are a pig to do after. Just save an MOT fail in the future too. They tend to seize up. So Car on Axle stands...please dont do this job with out them, exhaust off from back. Just the silncer will. Undo hand brake cables from the hand brake ankers, trolly under axle, under four holding stud bolts (13mm) under brake hose holding clamps you can see from the sides. undo bolts slow and evenly, and jut lower it down. You only have to undo one side of the brake fluid system just by the load balancer. Drop the axle away, and bring in new disc unit. Swap that balancer if your going to now!! Now just do the reverse...but it on the trolly, wiggly it in and recnnoct brake feeds and then the four studs etc. Job just a bout done.

Right, there's a trick to balancing the rear brakes out.,Bleed the system, Pump the brakes 30 ish times to make sure the system is balanced and the pads are actuating at the same time. Do this before you tighten the hand brake cables. Make sure you service them from time to time. Ive found them prone to seizing up.

OH !!!!!!!!!! PS!!!

Shocks! Youll find the shocks alot stiffer and may feel weird with soft fronts. Either swap the 14's onto the new axle or swap the fronts out of the GTI and put them on yours. I swapped a GTI disc unit onto my other halfs car like your doing and she hated the new ride! So i had to swap them for her old softer units. there's not a lot isn't it really but she noticed.

Nonsense. You'd remove the sensors from the new axle as they will be redundant.

206 1.4 im workin atm has gti rear axel abs lead hangin off .

Never failed a mot .
