Hello everyone!
I have a 1.6 16v 206 Quicksilver. The suspension seems VERY weak, hard. .ish but wobbly/lacking feel plus around every 5k miles some bush always needs changing. I've had new top mounts, shocks, wishbones & links but all have been standard. Does anyone else find this? Is the GTI/RC suspension components any stronger/compatible?

Typical 206 boat feeling?
The GTi/RC can be fitted but standard components will result in a higher ride height due to the lighter engine.

You could use GTi lowering springs, but buy one's slightly lower than the drop you want, e.g if you want a 30mm drop buy 40-50mm.
Or you can look at aftermarket components for the 1.6, there's actually a wide selection of parts available for that engine if you know where to look/know what your looking for. What you have to bear in mind is it is basically a slightly detuned version of the engine in the 106 GTi/Saxo VTS
Have a look for a set of Eibach springs be a 35mm drop but improve the handling dramatically.

ok thanks so thats the springs sorted. Im new to the whole modifying concept so apologies for being so dense! But is there anything that can be done about top mounts, wishbones, links, anti-roll bars etc would polybushes make a big difference?
Also you mention the de-tuned-ness. . .can anything be done to improve things there?

It's basically dependent on how much you really want to spend. Top mounts and wishbones you could go to peugeot sport in france for. Drop links i've not seen anybody ever say anything about them. Also anti-roll bars can be changed to GTi/RC one's. Polybush kit's don't seem to exist for the 206 unfortunately.
I did look in depth to it quite a while ago as I was planning on swapping my 1.4 for a 1.6 XSi but things changed and eventually I've ended up with the GTi. It's mainly the head that's slightly different between the 206 and the 106 and only 15bhp difference. If I remember rightly the cam's are slightly more aggressive on the 106.

Im so annoyed with the crappy handling/ride Im toying with the idea of selling it but want to try these ideas first because other than the suspension its great. Its almost as the car is too light for the suspension & therefore the constant juddering buggers it quicker.
Ok the antiroll bars, springs & polybushes sound a good place start but which parts would be better for XSI? RC or GTI?

If anything you would be better off buying uprated parts for the 1.6 like the Eibach springs Bilstine dampers etc. Standard the 206 does have handling similar to a boat, but once they've been dropped on decent components they do become a go kart.

Im having a look online at the moment. I want the car to handle better & I realise it needs to be lower but I dont want the boyracer look. Would a drop of 30mm be enough to improve things enough to make the cost worthwhile?

ah that makes sense. Yeah the huuuuge body roll is another pet hate of mine. I've found some Gmax sport springs (£65, demon tweeks) which say they will lower the car by 30-40mm. Can they be fitted to standard shocks?
Im also thinking of replacing the bushes (powerflex) in the suspension arms as seems to be another weak spot for these cars. Or is it worth buying new the arms GTi arms instead?
