Recently took my car to a friend and he told me the hissing noise was coming from the injectors and could be the seals that have gone so I bought new seals for £6.29. I Removed the air box earlier and looked down to notice that the 2nd injector from the left is covered in oil whilst the rest were fine. What I'm looking to know is what do i do now as ive only started learning to be a mechanic and havent made it this far yet in terms of knowledge. Any help welcome, thanks

first things first mate what engine is it? presuming its either a 1.4 or 1.6 hdi? in which that is a psa engine used in the mk6 fiesta.
there an absolute faff to change and the injector leak offs are extremely brittle.

living for the 306.....not anymore!
now living for the 206.....

Best thing you can do is get a haynes manual, ive done this at work about 4-5 times now, can be a bit tricky to first remove the rockercover/ intake manifold and then to reinstall it.

Whilst your at it would be worthwhile changing the injector leak off pipes/seals as they often break when you remove them to get the inectors out. Also upper plastic seal fitted to injectors often need to be replaced.

The book time for removal of the seals is 2.6 Hours, thats minus the time it takes you to clean the carbon build up from around the injector seals from where its been blowing by.

Allow yourself plently of time to do the job if youve never done it before.

Basic proceedure is:

Remove uper cambelt cover
Remove intake - turbo pipe
Remove Back EGR pipe
Remove fuel filter housing/or unbolt and push out of way
Remove/unclip fuel pipes to filter and unclip from rocker cover - also inspect for pin hole caused by airbox chaffing on it.
Remove rocker cover not missing the two bolts on the back of the head
Unclip injectors electrical connectors
Undo fuel feed pipes
Unbolt injector clamps 20nm torque setting for installation.
Work injectors free and remove from head
Remove copper seals from head (often stuck in head due to carbon build up)
Clean carbon from injector holes trying not to get any back into the cylinder now injector is out and leaves hole.
Ensure the seat the seal sits on it perfectly clean as if not it may not seal properly and you will have to do the job again.
Clean carbon build up off injector but leave the nozzle alone as they are easily damaged.

Reffiting is the reverse of removal.

I always place the injector copper seals in the head then insert the injector into the head to make sure the seal is seated properly.

 


W reg, 1.4 GLX, Platinum Silver, Slowly getting there even if it does want to make me work hard for the privilege to drive it.
