I had my clutch changed last year at 40k miles, to sort out the clutch judder, my mechanic said the clutch was in good condition, but changed it anyway, as well as the slave which he said was leaking. Solved it for about a month, then it came back.

Ive had a look at the car and my bottom engine mount seems to have a lot of give in it. I.e. I can rock the engine back and forth quiet easily from under the car. Would this be the cause of the judder?

When I change gear there's always a 'bite' as I bring the clutch back up. Not smooth at all.

The cause of the judder is the clutch, but a slack engine mount will make it greatly worse. There should be a little bit of "give" in the mountings but if you can rock the engine easily by hand then it will greatly exaggerate any clutch judder and make it more difficult to change gear smoothly.

If you change the rear mount then you should find the judder greatly reduced and as the new clutch beds in with time then it should get better and better
