evening
whats people's opinions on the easiest method to put a gti engine back into car? i'll be test fitting gearbox to make sure clutchplate is lined up beforehand.
it would be easier to join them outwith car but previous experience taking them out together it was pretty awkward - had to pivot/twist to get it out complete and still scratched the shell
any thoughts?
*edit and i dont have a car lift, so no chance of going in from the bottom

I'm doing this in the summer, Haynes manual says you can do it with box attached, would make life easier of it did!

If your engine is out why not just strip your front end down and then that way you can just slot it into place with very little chance of scratching the shell.
Easiest way ive found when removing and engine and you can slot it into place in 1 piece.

Put engine and gearbox back in together from underneath. Much less messing.

thanks for the responses.
in regards to what the haynes says, i'd agree its possible but how easy...
front end is stripped uz, just the lower front crossmember left. would you put in sideways and twist from there?
Any suggestions on getting the height Paul to go from underneath?
