Hi all,

I'm from Australia andI am looking to buy a 206 GTI 180.

I was wondering if I could get some buying advice from anyone who is familiar with this model or who currently owns/previously owned one.

Perhaps some things to look out for, known issues, specific interior & exterior features, year model comparison etc.

After doing some research on this awesome forum space I came across "SP"
What is "SP"?

Appreciate any info and recommendations.

Cheers
Smile

SP? Sport Peugeot perhaps

I only know about the Zunsport grilles which can be rebadged as SP grillles.

Some issues:

Cluth can be worn so check history for when it was replaced. If it hasn't been replaced then you might want to keep some money in the bank for when that happens.
Pollution errors that are present especially if someone tried to work on the car that doesn't know their stuff around the engine of 206 GTi 180.
Enigine mounts. Check when they were last replaced. Many people drive sport yet still don't know how to shift properly.

SP means sports pack. It was a number of items some cars came with as standard and other were a optional extra. Things like metal grills, gearknob and pedals were classed as SP plus some other bits.

Check if the timing belt has been replaced when necessary, and who did it.

An Australian spec GTI 180 will be different to a UK spec 206 Wink

No passenger airbag disarm switch for a start as there now allowed in Australia.

Hi all,

I am digging up my original post with a little update.

I have been able to locate a very well maintained 206 GTI 180.

It is a 2005 model that has less than 50K kms however it's had the exhaust camshaft pulley replaced back in 2011 (two years ago).

The previous owner complained of a rattle noise coming from the rear of the engine, especially notable during a cold start.
Less than 6 months prior to this the car had it's timing belt replaced and fitted.

Can anyone provide any advice regarding this fix or if this a known issue on this model?

I am wondering if this is a concern as I would like to know more background info on it before I pursue the car further.

Appreciate any feedback.
