roughly about 6-7 weeks ago, after driving to a mates i parked up, when i came to leave my car was dead, the central locking just about opened the doors, turned key the dash lit as normal but soon as you tried to fire it no electrics, so my mate tried to jump start me nothing ?

was as if there was no battery at all in car, was about to to call break down out when i noticed faint battery light on dash, then all of a sudden interior light came and dash lit as normal the clock had reset to french 1998 lol so i turned the key it fired but cut straight out as if fuel pump was off, so held foot on accelerator tried again and fired and as been running fine since until friday night...

i drive 32 mile a day for work, so i need car for work, on the way home friday night, i was on a dual carriage way luckily on my own, as i came off the island i noticed my ABS and handbrake light were illuminated, ive not long had brakes done so i'm thinking faulty ABS sensor, as i apporached next island i noticed my brake lights wernt working, normally see the window light reflect in rear view ? so i pulled onto sainsburys turned car off thinking may be it was a pot hole had set off abs light, but when i came to start car again it was dead like before so i thought great stuck here now, so i did exactly what i did before but i put side lights on turned key an opened door, after 5 mins the battery light came on and the buzzer to say door was open with key in ignition, couple mins later i got it started, drove to work yesterday and back no problems ??

no EML at all on both occasions, and battery was new feb-march last yr

i'm guessing battery is duff or a cell is dying, or could be the ngk plug fitted Confused any ideas lads and lasses

i'll post voltages up when i find me volt reader from the shed

thanx in advance

Yea thats it. You don't need a ramp to check it though?

Just look to see if it is corroded or split anywhere.

had a look cable looks pretty good cant see where it connects to gearbox bloody sun making it hard to see, but its slightly exposed battery end looks stretched

found me multimeter also looks like battery and possibly alternator needs replacing with engine off its reading 12.07v with engine running its 14.44v so its charging but under load with headlights and heater on it down to 14.33v

so gonna go get a new battery terminal sort the earth cable out cause its exposed

Looks like your battery is on the way out if it's showing 12.07v at rest. Should be reading about 12.65v at 100% charge. Yours is about 25% full.

new battery fitted reading 12.65v at standstill, terminal block replaced slightly different readings at idle and with load on but i'm assuming thats because the alternator hasnt gotta work as hard to charge battery up at the moment at idle its reading 14.33v dropping to 14.28v under load

car sound alot healthier on start up took it for a run checked battery when i got home reading 13.45v and slowly drops back down to 12.65v

so touch wood only money i'll need to spend is on fuel , antifreeze and some new tyres
