Hey Guys,

Need a bit of advice, was driving along the other day and the car came up with the dreaded anti pollution fault and will not rev over 3k (Limp Mode?)

I have read the error codes and have the following:

P0402 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive

P1162

P0490

P0409 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit

P1351

Had a few people say it's the EGR valve jammed open (P0402 + P0409) also make me think this.

I have ordered an EGR blanking plate as i have wanted to get this done for awhile. Just a few questions:

Will this fix this issue?

Will the blanking plate throw up the engine light?

ill effects of the EGR blank.

I fairly familiar with the 207 as i have had a GT Hdi and now a Gti and know alot of 207 Hdi owners blank the EGR without any issues, but is this the same on the 206?

Also any pics/guides of the EGR blanking?

Any help welcome as running my GTi daily is breaking me!

Thanks

I'll be watching this thread with interest as I recently bought a 1.6 gti hdi and currently have no problems. It has extensive history and only a year ago had the DPF replaced and also the fuel cap sensor amongst other things. I also think that it still has the egr in place so will interested to see if this is a straight forward remove and blank off operation as was the case in many other cars I have owned.

P1162 - Electric EGR valve operating fault : Sticking of the solenoid valve while driving
P0490 - Electric EGR valve operating fault : Solenoid valve too far closed compared with the setting
P1351 - Pre-heating relay circuit : Coherence ; Relay supplied and glow plugs not supplied

Looks all egr related

Might be worthwhile trying to clean the egr out with something like brake cleaner first to get all the carbon out to see if it will get it operating right again first

Hi kwakzx7r, I sometimes get the fuel cap problem.

Is it a pain to fit the new sensor or is it in the cap and not the neck of the fuel tank?

Cheers

Your EGR blank will only work if you have the EGR mapped out of the ECU software. Sadly, changing the ECU software on the newer HDIs is an utter pain but do able with the correct tool. If you wanted to go down this route let me know and I might be able to help.

if not your only options are to try cleaning your EGR valve or replacing it if that doesn't work.

Strangely enough while driving to work this morning my display came up with the anti pollution fault message. No limp mode and no effect to the cars performance in any way. On the way home stopped and bought a bottle of eco max, gave it a good shot and within 5 miles fault cleared and no more warning lights or messages Smile
