Just got a chirping noise coming from front o/s wheel. The squealing stops when I brake the noise disappears, but after checking braking system I'm guessing it's the wheel bearing, I've got somebody with a hydraulic press
That's willing to do it if I bring the hub down Monday. Anybody know how to remove this safety? I've never gone past the disc and would appreciate Andy input.

Out of interest what checks have you done on the braking system? Is everything greased up and free moving?
Jack up vehicle and place axle stand under the vehicle in a secure place (under subframe)
Remove wheel
Undo caliper mounting bolts and cable tie/place out of way of hub
Slacken brake disc screws
Remove Caliper carrier
Remove brake disc
Unclip abs sensor when applicable
Undo driveshaft securing nut
Undo track rod end nut and remove from hub
Using a bar, lever wishbone ball joint out of hub
Undo strut to hub securing bolt
Using copper mallet knock hub off strut
Reffiting is reverse of removal, applying copper slip to lower balljoint will halp removal in future. Ensure tightening torques are used when tightening up bolts. Also good practice to change balljoint pinch bolt when ever you remove it.
Thats the theory, in practice it won't go quite as easy as that, namely the lower balljoint is normally the stubbling point, or even finding that the driveshaft is seized into the hub in which case remove hub with driveshaft in place. This will then mean you will need to top up gearbox oil.

Yeah I have completely removed caliper and disc, checked for signs of warping, seizing in the caliper, checked no metals were rubbing and all seems to be okay. No sign of wear. Doesn't sound the easiest job then, maybe best to take full car to garage.
Thank you for your help, I'll have a crack in morning and all been well it'll come straight off. HA! if only.

Were the pad ends greased up and carrier free of rust?

Sounds like a disc or pad problem. Wheel bearing would make the same noise when its knackered, and only gets louder with speed.

From your description it certainly sounds more like brake noise than a wheel bearing.

,try a new brake pads first,and get a decent brand,as cheap ones usually make the noise u r talking about.
