Could also be defective temp sensor. There are two - one for the temp gauge and one for the ECU. Do a search in here and you will find some old threads telling you which one to replace. IIRC it is the blue one tucked down on the end of the cylinder head closest to the battery. With the car cold unplug it and start the car. If it is better change the sensor, if no change then as Macca states ICV.

Non-mux models have only one sensor with two ellements inside it (3-pins) one for the gauge and another for the ECU. The other sensor is a thermal-switch (at 120 C) mounted on the side of the block incase of over-heat and no coolant in the system, or air-lock preventing proper reading of the main one. (BTW: This usually causes the 'jump' to red of the gauge and STOP light on the dash).

But yes, could easily be engine temp sensor wiith this problem so worth checking as well.

Hi. My 2005/55 1.4 has just started doing something similar it has been fine all summer but now it getting colder its playing up, the symptoms are,

Starts from cold fine with no probs and runs at about 1200rpm, as soon as I drive away and turn on the fan or the a/con to clean the windows etc its fine when the revs are higher but when I ease off the throttle at a junction or a corner its just cuts out,

I have been reading the threads on here and mine is slightly different as there is no throttle cable, will I still have the ICV or is it different?, or is my fault probably with the temp sendor unit

Any help appreciated
