About 4 weeks ago I found fluid on passenger side floor which appears to look like brownish colour and when screed to remove the fluid, there is white form. The fluid look like beer and while driving before cleaning up the floor, it was like there is a puddle of water stuck somewhere inside my car that splash back and forward.

Took it to a garage to have a quick look and the guy said it was the heat matrix but there was no damp near the device under the dashboard/glove compartment, only on the floor. Check the coolant tank and it was empty so filled it with water.

For about 4 weeks I was driving with water in the coolant tank and there was no leak and the tank was full. Last night it was heavily raining with wind at about 80mhp and today morning I noticed my passenger side floor is wet with puddle of water which looks and feel like the fluid before. While driving I could also hear water splashing back and forward from somewhere inside the car. I checked my coolant tank it was still full.

Took it to a garage to completely flash the coolant out of the system and refill with antifreeze as its winter. Asked the guy to check whether there is a leak and I was reported there is none.

First time I thought it was my coolant as the tank was empty but I think I may have been driving with a empty tank after getting my sorted via insurance company and the garage forgot to put coolant in my car or removed it intentionally. For 4 weeks the water didnt leak and it seem after heavy rain there is fluid in my passenger side floor.

Anyone got any thoughts on this as its confusing because the fluid look like beer but dont smell like it (and I do not drink beer or nor has anyone been in my car drinking it or apply juice). My heating are working fine and dont take too long to warm up and my car's temp gauge sit round 90 degree (usually below) so i know the engine is not burning up.

What He Said

Also check the door drain holes are clear
Maybe the brown fluid was just the muck from the carpets.

Clean the plastic 'guttering' between the window and the A-Pillar, I had a puddle of water in the same place whenever it rained, turned out there was mud and other debris blocking the guttering and so it would 'pool' then drip back into the car.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Much appreciated.

I have checked my coolant/antifreeze tank and its still full and I can hear puddle of fluid rolling back and forward somewhere within my car. I also noticed the floor to driver side rear section is also damp.

I think I have a worse case of rainwater leak. I am not good with cars so I will Google to find out the places most likly to get blocked and try clean it. If I cant manage this, I will take it to a garage and let everyone know whether it was a rainwater leak because most garage will just tell you its the Heater Matrix when its not and charge you about £200.

I dont have a sunroof and from the sound of the water thats splashing about and the amount of cleaning I have done, I dont think its a leak within my car such as leak coolant/heating etc because by now all those fluid should be empty.

I currently have the exact same problem!! (Brownish puddle of water in the passenger footwell)

From what i can gather from various threads/posts its most likley to be the heater matrix, which would explain the need to top the water up often currently, but i need to investigate/disect the car first before i dive in spending the £££.

Will update for your info as and when.

UPDATE..

I have been driving the car for the past few months and I didnt have to refill my coolant at all. Therefore its not the coolant leaking. I still get the leak in my car passenger side but cant seem to find out where its coming from. Every garage seem to say its the matrix but I am not losing any coolant. The extreme rain is not helping either.

You could put a couple of A4 sheets of paper under the passanger footwell and watch for a couple of days and see if they are getting wet.

If all is dry you can then eliminate that area.

if its heater matrix you can usually rub your finger in the puddle/water and smell the coolant on your finger,
