Hi,
So iv very recently picked up a clean Peugeot 1.1 2002 LX from buy and sell for my partner.. everything seems to be running well apart from the lights which we just discovered last night.. every time she turned the high beams on they immediately switch back off as did the spot lights when we got home i was trying to get the light to stay on when the engine began to rumble so i switched it off this happened 3 times but only while trying to get the lights to come on?? any advice?

Spot lights?
Which headlights are fitted, frosted (H4) or Crystals (H7) or some after market crap? You could do with finding out if the headlamps have been dicked about with.
Muti-plexed electrics are a nightmare if you don't understand the system.
Check the battery connections are tight and check the earth lead to the gearbox. Check the earth behind the headlamps too. Is the alternator putting enough charge into the battery? Could be a dodgy comm2000 unit, or might be a BSI bug, So many things it could be so you might be better off taking it to a sparky to see if there is anything glaringly obvious.

are we talking a costly fix as we have been saving for a good few weeks to pick a good motor up we thought we had found one.. Shes all ready getting nervous we just payed 1400 for a s**t car.. everything apart from that seems fine grand clean motor but i would not be the most mech minded to understand the issue.. yes front fog lights i thought they were known as spot light :-/ .. they seem to both switch off when they are switch on and then cause a rumble in the engine when you keep trying to switch them on?

The front fogs are interesting on multiplexed 206's.
On early BSI software versions with the headlamps OFF, if you just operated the front fog switch the sidelights would also turn themselves ON at the same time.
On later BSI software versions, the sidelights or dipped beam needs to be already ON before the front fogs will then turn on with the switch.
First thing would be reboot the BSI unit & see if the lights then play nicely.

Have a read here:

You just need a spanner for the battery terminal ( think its an 8mm spanner) don't worry if its a factory radio fitted in the car, there locked to the BSI unit so there isn't a radio code to worry about.

OK iv read this and it doesn't look to complex.. the guy did mention a new battery had been fitted to the car not to long ago so maybe the sequence was not done correctly.??. the car is driving fine i fear if i attempt this will the car not run at all :-/ last thing i want to do is make the situation worse off.. plus i believe its just a factory cd player in the car so are you sure no code is needed? she will be gutted if i make a dogs dinner of it

Factory fitted radios on multiplexed Peugeot / Citroen are locked to the cars BSI unit via the vin number.
There is no radio security code for the owner to worry about, if the VIN matches in both BSI & radio all is fine in radio land.
Its only when the radio gets removed & then fitted in to a different Peugeot / Citroen that you would get a BEEPING nightmare

also in the last part of that post
When programming keys on Peugeot 206 with MUX (Multiplex and a comms 2000 unit)- it is important to note that there are two different types
of remote. Although both the keys look exactly the same (2 button- one
large, one small) if you use the wrong remote you will be able to program
the transponder but the remote will not work. The remotes are identified by whether the vehicle has front fog lights or not.
With front fog lights part number 6554.K2
Without front fog lights part number 6554.K1
"ours has the front lamps"
Do i have to enter any keys? can i do this with out diagnostic equip ? sorry for 101 question i just want to try get this sorted for her as cheaply and effectively as possible
Thanks for the help

Nope, your just rebooting the BSI unit ( basically disconnecting then reconnecting the battery correctly for a multiplexed PSA Peugeot / Citroen product ) your not going in to any key coding.
You just need the spanner to disconnect the battery.
