This peugeot gti 180 engine is a pig to repairthey are so hard to work on

Big engine in a small car ..

try getting a 4-1 manifold down the back of the engine(gti) .
Ive got ptsd from doing it !
Pug 180 & i cannot even get the manifold clamp undone to put the de-cat on .
( funny angle &(2) heat shield's in the way . Ordered a new spanner & a long socket Cool ready for round 2 ! i do struggle .

If it aint broke dont fix it !

Try to do top end rebuild plus timing belt

Manifold is easy if you lower or remove the subframe.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

Done cambelt . Nightmare for access... not much room to move the engine across .

I lowered the subframe& engine (edward) as much as i could (brakelines in way ) .
Did not want to remove the subfame as i only had that day to do it myself over a borrowed pit .. took me 7 hrs to complete with cat welded up to with a flange .

Good luck gaznandrea . a wee polish to head valves before its refitted ?

Flipping got wrong head bolts shop ordered wrong ones
