Been working out what the missis' 206 is doing on fuel. For the last few fuel ups its worked out at 29mpg.

She does little runs about 5 miles each way to work and back a couple of times a week. That and the school run most days.

When I first got the car there was a misfire on idle so got a different coil pack and now its smooth. There isn't a lot of power but put that down to it only being a 1.4 so don't think its down on power, just a slow car.

There may be a slight leak from the manifold to cat (on the big square gasket) so this may have an affect on the mpg.

does this sound about right or should we be getting more?

Her trip to work will be increasing to more like 15 miles each way soon so if I can improve the mpg before hand it would be good.

Thanks

Sounds like the engine is just coked up due to all the short journeys its doing, it sounds like its hardly ever getting of the warm up cycle.

Thermostat & coolant temp sensor replacements might be worth doing as they only last a few years.

When was the last time the tappet gaps where checked / adjusted?

I get 33 mpg average out my TU3 powered 206 with the climate control on & a heavy right foot.

never had tappets done to be honest. its due a set of plugs so doing them at weekend. and its blowing on exhaust slightly so will get that sealed up at same time.

its driven slowly but doubt its eco though... will see how it improves after plugs, bosch ones are about 6 quid from ecp so cheap enough

While the plugs are out it might be an idea to check / adjust the tappets.

Engine needs to be COLD - left over night & get a new rocker cover gasket Wink

An exhaust leak in front of the Lambda will make it run rich and use excess fuel. As well as exhaust getting out air gets in. The lambda "senses" the oxygen in the air, the ecu thinks the car is running lean so throws more fuel at it.

How many times have I typed this in different threads! Haven't always been right thought.

PS. The 1.4 on short runs is not an economical car. My daughter's did about 33mpg. Her 06 1.4 Fiesta does 44 on the same run. The 206 was well maintained and low mileage.

Checked the plugs and they looked ready to be changed. They were NGK and now are now bosch. Feels to pick up better from lower revs. May just "seem" like it but feels that way. Will update with next fuel figures

If it us running rich for any reason the excess fuel will shorten the life of your Cat. Make sure you also attend to the exhaust leak.

My 1.1 would do 20-22 mpg on short runs. Shockingly thirsty but i'm not sure how much of a difference a blowing back box would make to that
