Ok, so now I turn to you lot for help as my local garage is stumped!

I am the semi proud owner of a 2005 1.3 206 zest that is about 20 seconds away from getting a dam good kicking!

All has been well until recently where for some unknown reason, the car starts to jerky violently and bunny hop, like you are running out of petrol.

This only happens once the car is hot, when accelerating and ONLY at between 1800 and 2000 RPM, under and over this, the car is perfectly fine and drivable.

The local garage has plugged it in and it has an O2 Lamda sensor fault, bank 1 sensor 2, so we went ahead and replaced this. Low and behold...thumper is still bouncing and I'm starting to get whiplash!

The garage have now drawn a blank and have suggested its time to go to the Peugeot dealer and have my pockets emptied of every penny I own and get them to sort it.

Can somebody please suggest something before I have to go the dealer.... Answers on a postcard please to...

There isnt a 1.3 206.

Are you sure its not a 1.4?

8 or 16 valve version?

Mechanical or electronic fly by wire throttle?

If your not sure then I can check via the VIN number.

Could be many things. Well worth checking the spark plugs to see if you are having a misfiring cylinder. From experience with my 1.4 8v (Bougicord Coil Pack, Magneti Marelli ECU) I can say NGK plugs are bad for these cars and cause misfiring and instability. I replaced mine for Bosch and the improvement in driveability was night and day.

If these check out ok there might be some build up in the throttle body. Well worth taking it off and giving it a thorough clean with a can of throttle body cleaner, making sure to get all of the sensors and the idle control valve. Easy to do on cars with a throttle cable, but I hear the fly by wire throttles can be a pain to settle back down.

Failing this, fuel filter, air filter and making sure there are no vacuum leaks are some other possibilities. As for fuel, recommend ESSO or BP over supermarket fuels. Branded fuels have better and more plentiful amounts of detergent added to keep your injectors and valves cleaner and running smoother. Either that or use Redex. Redex works out approx. 6p per litre more if used all the time, so the branded garages may actually be cheaper than supermarket + redex as you won't need the redex.

Many years ago I had a similar problem with my CRX.

Every thing ran perfectly until it warmed up then it would miss fire and as you call bunny hop now and then.

I had her in the local auto electrician this guy had a right good reputation but after three full examinations he was unable to find the fault but on my fourth visit he finally found the problem and I was very grateful when he told me there would be no charge, we are talking about 30 hours in his garage before he finally found my problem.

There was a rubber insulated spade connector on the side of the distributor and the metal spade part was not connected properly the spade was only slipped over the rubber insulation and once the car warmed up so did the rubber causing a poor connection

This post maybe something to consider with these type faults. Confused

This reminds me when I ditched supermarkets and started filling up at shell - random juddering on a diesel went away.

The car is a 2 door, 2005 206 zest. 1360cc engine with a mechanical throttle, not sure about the valves.

I have put through a bottle of redex at the suggestion of the garage and that did nothing. I have been using my local shell for refuelling also so I doubt it would be that.

I will have a look at the distributor and see what's happening there and also get a service booked in, it is due one in a few months so may as well do it early.

Good luck with that. The 206 has a coil pack rather than a distributor.

I'd be tempted to find someone who has PP2000 and get a proper diagnostic check done complete with live data.

Garages nowadays seem to think that whatever their machine tells them that the fault is, then that's gospel. A fault code points in the direction of the fault but doesn't necessarily mean that the sensor is at fault. The lambda could look faulty for a number of reasons and would suggest that you need to work backwards and look at the things that might cause a fault.

Bank 1 sensor 2. Is that the post CAT sensor? If the car has been misfiring then the CAT is most likely breaking down due to raw fuel coming into contact with it.

Well to fix this problem,you need to replace the (TPS)=(Throttle Position Sensor),it's the sensor that cause this problem when car gets warm,and drive perfectly fine when cold,it's an expensive sensor,about 100 GBP brand new from dealer,you can buy a complete throttle body,a second hand one,and try it.
