Hi guys,

I bought a modified 206 GLX 2001 recently and have done a lot of work on it but I'm stuck.
When I bought it, I noticed that the passenger side speaker was not working, I assumed it was a broken speaker but last week, I tried switching the speaker to the driver side to see if it works and it does.. I've changed the speaker adapter in case it was that but no change.

The only thing I can think of is that it's the actual speaker cable that is not working. I just wanted to ask - is replacing the car speaker cable quite hard? (this is gonna sound like a stupid question I think) but is there a specific cable I need to buy or is it just a normal standard speaker cable like www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25m...4897.l4275 obviously not 25m.

With replacing the car speaker cable, I noticed that the speaker cable is joined up to the tweeter, does that make it harder to change or?

Ive got no clue how to do it and this is just making me want to bang my head every second. Sad

Just checking the trivial stuff - balance isn't set all the way to one side?

Just about anything will work for speaker wires. Personally I'd go with just about any 2-wire cable, but 1.5mm2.

Tricky part is going out to the door... also a possible failure point for the stock wire (on either side) Question is if you're going to reuse the contacts in the stock plug or run continuous wire out into the door.

as for the tweeter - it is simply wired in parallel. When you get to the woofer (bigger speaker), just stick a second piece of wire, long enough to get to the tweeter, into the connectors as you crimp/solder them, attach other end of this 2nd wire to the tweeter. (Ie, wire from HU + speaker terminal to + terminal on woofer and then continue on to + terminal on tweeter. same for the negative terminals.

Do a continuity check before starting to replace wires

+1 macca.

Running new wires is quite a lot of wasted work when it cound be the head unit setup or head unit failed. Check the wire continuity from the rear of the head unit to the speakes. If the wires aren't broken (or high resisteance) it is probably the head unit.

it ended up being the bloody balance Laughing
cant believe i didnt check the most obvious thing first lol.

cheers anyway!

also, some more help is needed:

i bought a new JVC car stereo (KD-R741BT) and fitted it in today. The stereo comes with an additional cable which is for connecting to the steering wheel remote:

(not letting me attach photos)

I tried to figure out how to connect it to the steering wheel but i've got no idea. From the remaining cables, there was only these two left:

www.flickr.com/photos/...551672695/

I'm not sure what either of them do to be honest... And I couldnt see anything else as to what to connect the cable with.

So if anyone could just help me clarify:
A) What do the remaining cables too?
B) Since only the speakers are connected to my stereo, will/is the original 6 disc CD player still connected to it and if not how do i connect it? I haven't been able to check mainly due to the fact i own no cd's lol
C) How do I connect my steering wheel and my stereo?!?!

Cheers in advance!

The multicoloured plugs including the CD changer normally go into a third ISO block on the HU (connector like the one for speakers and the one for power. Far from certain that your new HU supports it.
Looks like (from a google image search) your HU has has a special 16 pin plug instead of atandard ISO power and speaker plugs (each 8 pins). I see no way for a CD changer to connect. Any mention of changer support in the documentation?

The single wire black plug is, IIRC, for the power to the antenna amplifier (check if it joins up with, to run along with, the antenna coaxial wire). If it is, it should be connected to the amplifier remote turn on wire from the HU (most often pin 5, blue). Some units have an additional power antenna wire (often blue/white). That is only active when the HU is in radio mode (ie not when listening to CD or AUX) If you want best performance to things like traffic announce then use the amp remote so the antenna is powered all the time the HU is on.

For the steering wheel control - I believe you need an adaptor specific for the car and HU brand. IIRC the wires used for communicating with the remote (and central display) are in the power ISO block, so the adaptor would plug into that between car and HU and provide a break-out to attach your HUs remote control wire to...
