I have just fixed an idential under load tap, it turned out to be the cat that had broken off inside - replacement - sounds spot on now!

Hi,
I think i have the same problem! I was told to try the knock sensor as it sounds like a pinking problem. Changed it, but no difference.

Is there any checks on the manifold i can carry out before taking it of?

Looks like a big job removing the manifold. Is it doable on the drive way?

Any ideas on the cost to get the garage to do it?

Cheers

Are you sure that it isn't the clamp?
It is very simple, just uncomfortable.

Undo the old clamp from the manifold to the Cat and the U clip from the other end of the Cat to the manifold, remove Cat, look into the end of the manifold, mine did move about but it wasn't making noise, (the 4 tubes)

Hmmm this seems strangely like the problem i just posted up about. Tapping under load but not when idling and oil level is fine.

This sounds like a problem I have just now on my gti but it also kinda sounds like the exhaust is blowing at the manifold or downpipe does/ should it sound like that
Cheers jonny
