I'm trying to decode the service history (lol that's being kind) that the previous owner gave me. I've got a garage receipt saying "belt work" attached to a parts receipt listing tensioners and a "gates micro-V belt (68392xs)". Is this a timing belt? If not what is it?

all that blarney sniper put up refers to serpentine belt,used to be called fan belt when they ran the fans.

Also if getting it done at a garage make sure there is warranty on the parts/work.

or get the parts and do it yourself,save cash know its been done right,and educate yourself all at the same time.on the 1.4 hdi its pretty easy too.

I probably could do it myself with my Haynes manual but some things I leave to the 'pros' for reasons stated above.

Ok so it's not the timing belt. Roughly how much will it cost to have a garage do it? I'm not mechanicaly minded at all so wouldn't attempt it.

prices will vary,make sure you get the whole kit not just the belt.waterpump also is a good idea.parts should be around 100 pounds give or take.maybe 2 hours labour.cheap price doesnt mean proper job.what year milage is your car.
