The Fabia VRS does seem to be a bit hit or miss with people. They remind me of the class nerd. Very competent at everything but somehow hard to love. It's a bit ugly and they've tried to improve it with the wheels and bumpers but it's still the class nerd.

Half the problem is people would tend to buy them for sensible reasons - value for money, 5 doors, decent MPG and insurance grouping. There's none of the hot hatch glamour with any of that lot.

They do an equivalent Polo don't they? I'd prefer that although no doubt it's more expensive but it doesn't try to stand out anymore than other more basic Polos.

Clarkson commented that the Fabia vRS was faster & more fun than the BMW Mini Cooper.

A Mini Cooper is not a hot hatch though. It's the equivalent of a 206 XSi in terms of speed, maybe even less.

Around the track it got ahead and stayed there. It didn't increase the gap though despite its power and torque advantage.

I had one - great everyday car, plenty of power as standard (was quicker than my 206GTi) and frugal.

However, it was no hot hatch, and I ended up buying a second (petrol) car to keep me satisfied.....

Used to have Moonstone 206 GTi (miss her!)

itll be quicker than the majority of 'hot' hatches, maybe on the track its not as quick but every day use is allot quicker.

looks a good buy mate, 6k aint a bad price for these, i wont take one anyday, bet it feels like a tank compared to the 206! get them chav rims sorted asap though, coosack grey for the standard rims would look sweet!

Being quicker doesn't mean you're having more fun though. The magic just isn't there with diesel engines in hot hatches. If you just want to cruise down a motorway or any other road using the mid range you'll be happy though.
