So, instead of pasting a million threads about what I have done to my car as I do it, I decided to make a project page! YaY me!!
Anyways, my car is basically a standard Red 2006 GTi180 with a few little alterations..
And just a by the by, I LOOOOVE LED's..
So anyway, here is my car.. I stole the Vinyl idea from NFS UG2, it was one of the level 2 flag designs, I cut and applied the vinyl myself as well..
So far besides the freeflow exhaust system I've only done visual alterations..
First off was changing the MFD to blue SMD LED's, unfortunately because of the kind of LCD that is used on the 2006 models it doesn't look as good as it did on my 04 model..
*04 model LCD*
*06 model LCD*
I've done the aircon display in blue and white as well, just dont have pics of it..
Next was the under door lights, unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to do both doors because I ran out of LED's and only recently got a chance to buy more.
Theeen I changed the inside light and reading light.
I replaced the inside light with 20 LED's.. It's like daylight in the car now..
I also placed LED's in my fog lights so when my sidelights are on they come on as well.
And now recently I'm working on my side mirror indicator.
The plan is to have 8 LED's that run in sequence across the mirror when indicating, I unfortuanately only had 4 LED's to use last night so I only have those in..
Will get the last of the components probably this weekend..
They dont look very bright because they running off of a little battery just to test.
Anyway that's all for now..
G

Wow you do love your LED's!
Looking very nice mate. Would love to see how-to for the mirror LED's, I think that is great idea.
Keep it up.

Haven't got a pic but we all know what they look like. |
Being the picky sort - I really hate it when people say this. Yes we all know what it looks like - but we all want to see the condition that yours is in! | |

THe sides were just an ebay special, it's the ones with 5 SMD LED's on them.. I want to get the 9 SMD LED ones or otherwise use a luxeon star there but I'll do that when I have cash again..

Wired straight to the live at the fuse box.. Got a reed switch on the door to detect when it's closed..

I was going to do puddle lights, bought all the stuff about a year ago and put all the wires in place, just can't be arsed to fit the lights
I don't like the interior light one bit, looks pretty ugly.
I'm liking the wing mirrors tho Are you gunna have to use a PCB to get them to go in sequence?
Seen them on a fire engine in the states during the summer, look ace

@SAB Go here: HKJE LED
They're the 5mm super flux LED's, 25000mcd, dont get the 5 die LED's they have a green tinge to them and only double the brightness..
@Lee Yip! But it's a really simple transistor based circuit and you can add 2 LED's onto the string at a time..
Luckily there's enough space inside the mirror housing to put the PCB.
The pic of the inside light is with the cover off, lol it's in my boot, I took it off and haven't gotten a chance to put it back.. It looks OEM when the light is off and the cover is on..
Just not sure, I'm somehow going to have to get a constant feed from the indicators?

Can't you just piggy back the feed from the side repeater in the wing? Then if it needs like a constant +12v just take one from the fuse box
EDIT: infact, cant you get the +12v from the motor in the folding mirrors?

The problem is that the "Running LED's" need a constant DC supply otherwise it will just start off then turn off again with the repeater.. So I am going to have to think of something else..
I know there should be a simple solution just cant think of one right now..
Do you know if the indicators are driven by a relay still or if it's done in the BSI?

So you want them constantly on, and then flash with the indicators? Like side markers
Its a relay within the circuit in the BSI as far as i know.

Basically, I need it to be constantly on while the indicator is on, so it needs to be connected to the circuit before the switching relay..
Excuse me if I make absolutely no sense, really tired..
"in the BSI" Hmm, that was what I was afraid of.. I'm scared of that little box..
