So if I bought a 180 and I bought a 138, and tuned them both with the same parts, the 138 would be better?
To tune a 138 to have the same parts as a 180 in order to rival it in all categories (exterior, interior, engine, handling, etc) it would (at the current time) cost more than just buying a 180. also the insurance after modifying would considerably be more than just insuring a 180.
If you want a the best 206, get a 180.
If you want a project car, it really doesn't matter what you buy because it'll be completely different when you're done with it, regardless of what you started with.
If you're on a tight budget, don't go round buying fast cars to play the willy waggling game with your mates. just get a 1.1 and save.

SGP - So its 180 or nothing and the rest of us should drive a 1.1? Riiiiight.
It makes me laugh how much of a difference people think a 180 is. Its a slightly tuned 138, without the gti the 180 would simply not exist so think on when you write off the 138.
6K for a 180 is a joke, like I say I would pay £3500 tops for a decent one if I didn't already own mine. Maybe 2K and my car on trade in but mainly just to get a newer 206 with less miles on.

It's more than a slightly tune GTi though isn't it? It's the whole package taking everything into consideration.

Not really mate. Its slightly tuned with some spruced up cosmetics. Worth an extra 2 grand?

Quoting figures like that is completely pointless. A top end 138 will not be £2k less than a nasty 180 will it?!

No, my statement was general, and weighted towards the topic of conversation. Different budgets can afford different cars, and different needs are accounted for when looking at what to buy.
People may buy a diesel because they are sick of paying out for petrol constantly. People may buy a 1.1 when they don't have the cash, or they really dont care about speed/cars in general. People may buy an SW if they need boot space, or a CC to show off their new haircut, etc etc.
But when someone creates a thread asking 'is the 180 faster than the 138?' then obviously, these things don't matter.
Overall its a better car, through and through. there's no arguement, else the car wouldn't exist.
Why buy a GTi? When you want a fast 206 that doesn't break the bank.
Why buy a 180? When you want something faster still.
These days the prices are levelling out a bit, so theoretically, if there was no price difference, why buy a 138 at all?
(Obviously my statement still stands about project cars, thats a different league.)

I still disagree as you seem to be saying a 180 is around the same money as a 138 - There really is still a big price difference! Maybe more than double in some cases!

well i've gone from a GTI to the 180 recently and i love em both
and the difference's are tiny really -180 bit more power ,slightly harsher ride
engine slightly smoother in the 138, and not as thirsty
seats are much nicer in the 180 , and considering the harder ride it is still comfy......both cars are pocket rockets, and fun to drive
