I still disagree as you seem to be saying a 180 is around the same money as a 138 - There really is still a big price difference! Maybe more than double in some cases!

Have you looked at the prices? I picked up a 54 plate 180 with 50k miles for £2750 at the start of the year. A similar age/mileage/condition 138 wouldn't be a huge amount less, certainly nowhere near half the price.

I appreciate at the time you bought yours the difference was much larger though.

I'm not so sure. A lot of gti's are advertised at around 2k but i've seen countless people on here struggle to sell them for around the 1200 mark! For that difference you could have 3 138's on an X plate for the same cost as a 180 on a 54 reg! (As I said I would pay around 3500 for a 180).

One road car, one track car and one to keep as spares when the other two go wrong. Smile

Couldn't though could you? I know mine cost's alot to run, but I know it's not 3 times a 138. Plus would I rather have 3 £300 laptops, or 1 Macbook pro? Simple choice really.

It's not really fair to compare the price of an X reg GTi to the price of a 54 reg 180 though, but I see your point.

I was just going by the prices I see GTi's advertised for on Autotrader/Pistonheads etc, which is relatively close to similar mileage/age/condition 180's nowadays.

Yes, simply because you'd have spent less to get to the same place. It's also easier to do the 138 because there's no VVT to play with.

2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

Where did he mention price and ease of modding?

It's quite simple if you own a 138 gti it's better than the 180. If you own a 180 gti it's better than a 138.

I have driven both and both have there perks the 180 is quicker. sharper handling which takes it's toll on the ride comfort better seats and should off been given a six speed box for motorway driving.

Gti 138 is pritty quick good handling better ride on ruff roads less engine noise on the motor way. And generally a smoother drive.

In my opinion I think the 180 is better in every department apart from ride comfort. But myn is a weekend toy so it's perfect for a bit off weekend fun. Think it would get annoying as an every day drive due to harsh ride.

Shocked very diplomatic. But it's the 180 people aspire to if they want the ultimate factory performance 206, I bet more people have gone from the 138 to a 180 than the other way round. People who have a 138 & spent time & money modding it will be more passionate about their cars because of that & its also possibly their hobby. A lot of them want & need recognition of how good their car now is to justify the expense, time & energy they've put into it & massage their ego. As far as standard goes, at least, the 180 takes the crown of the ultimate 206 Gti, as far as ultimate owner passion for their car goes, well the modded 138 boys get that.

nar 138 owners dont think their better, and people who have modded them dont think their better either, if you got that from all those comments i think your analytical skills need a brush up, if you own a 138 and cant admit a 180s better your dumb simple it surpasses the gti in most areas, one thing though it still rattles like a gti still looks like one, im not buying the 180 being better looking it has cc bumpers and a piece of plactic over the exhaust dont make it much different in fact most non pug owners wouldnt be able to tell apart from the vortexs and the cheap cf effect CC is just tacky at best, the only question is, is the 180 worth the extra 2k, to be honest i wouldnt say so, i was going to get a 180 and have considered it on more then one occasion, but when i decided to get another car on the drive next to the gt, it probably wont be a 180 its just not worth the extra cost and weirdly its insurance group can mean the difference of like 1.5k in some cases in insurance. one thing though the interior is no much nicer, no horrible grey cross stitch pattern, and nearly all gtis have cracked leather on the seats. my gts are bad, 180 are only worth it if you want the best oem 206

Where the hell are people getting this 2k difference in price from? A 138 and 180 on the same reg, with similar miles will not have a 2k difference in price!!

Think you need to learn the meaning of sarcasm. And if the tacky pieces of cf are so bad why do people buy them as upgrades. And there isn't a 2k difference that's just silly.
