Yes, simply because you'd have spent less to get to the same place. It's also easier to do the 138 because there's no VVT to play with. |
Funny. Give an example.

My analytical skills, lol. Most if not all the 138 owners that have posted here DO think their cars are better than the 180. So by your definition there's a lot of dumb 138 owners out there.

And im sure Jamie's would have been Faster and more Reliable if they could have managed with the VVT and he kept interest in it,, and i bet he would have spent far less too

How many times do we have to say the 180 is better overall BUT ITS JUST NOT JUSTIFIED IN THE PRICE??!!!
It has very little to do with the actual performance!
Every 138 owner will agree with you on this. Its the 180 boys who simply say 'Oh its got a bit more poke and some extra trim so its worth every penny'. I still disagree. I made an informed choice to NOT buy a 180 because the price difference was a joke for basically the same car.
Also to the guy who handpicked a whole 2 cars to compare - well done.
I think we've all been here long enough to know what a 138 and a 180 goes for. You just picked one overpriced 138 and one underpriced(abused?) 180.

People will pay more for a 180 'because
Newer car
More likely less miles
More power overall
Better handling
More Standard extras
Better Interiour
Better looking!? Rear End, Slighty Lower?

I agree. The main reason for me 'upgrading' to a 180 was to have a new car with less miles and not have to 'waste' money by adding a spoiler and CC'd bits to my car.
If I saw a 180 going super cheap and got decent dollar for mine I would still go for it!
(I'm sure this will confuse the blinkered views of some that see everything in black and white)!

I don't think 138 owners do think the car is better than the 180, they just seem to be aware that the 180 is a mildly tuned version of it...there is no night and day difference.

That's just it though, it wouldn't have cost less because everything that makes the 180 different to the 138 would have been thrown away. It would still need head work, a new exhaust and manifold, cams and throttle bodies. The VVT would give a slight torque advantage but if it's hard to get it to work then that also makes it more expensive.

iv never owned a 206 gti 138 model but have drove meny of them and to be truthfull there is not alot between them really as speed go's but deffo the interior is alot better and handling is better and wheels
so really for me i go for gti 180 just because feel better to drive and nicer interior.
if they would of done a limited 206 gti 138 with the same spec suspention and interior i would gone for this over 206 gti 180.
regards
kyle

The point of this thread turned into what was the better Gti, I'm glad you agree it's the 180. So the price is a separate issue & just means wether you can afford it or not. God knows where you guys look for prices, as my 180 is an 03 with 26k with full history & worth about £2000 even with morrete's & most of the SP parts (I paid £3000 about 18 months ago), & is worth every penny that it may cost over the top of a 138.

I think if you read back through the posts mate you will see I have said all along I would prefer the 180 - You've not somehow managed to make us give in to your way of thinking??
It was all about if it was WORTH choosing the 180 over a 138.
