I have just purchased a GTi 180, The car is absolutrly mint, no complaints what so ever.. apart from just one thing, wondering if it is a common fault.

When i set off from stationary there is quite a nasty judder, kind of like the engine mounts are loose type of a judder. Once you are mooving thou it completly goes away untill you stop and set off again.

Any thoughts??

Yes, this is very common. I'll think you'll find everyone on here has, or had the same problem. I don't think it's anything to worry about though.

You have to check engine support near cam belt. If that's good, probably you clutch is about to f..k up... It's not rare on GTI 180 (at around 60000 km)...

Milege is just over 57k.. i can tell the car has been very well looked after. There is just this judder as i say. i have had a 140 GTI before and i could of sworn it did the same thing.

Just gets a little bit irritating, speically when you have passengers in car.. Bit of a perfectionist so will have to get it sorted out lol..

So i am looking for engine support at cambelt side... failing that it should be the clutch that needs replacing..??

Most likely to be the clutch I had mine replaced about 4k miles ago on mine and the cold weather has brought a little judder ever so slightly in the mornings Sad

Must be a bad clutch design!! I would consider maybe uprating if you do decide to change the clutch as the judder will more than likely come back after a few thousand miles!

I don't know... poor french lol. They certainly know how to extract power from an engine. Just not for very long lol...

What sort of clutches would you reccomend me to be looking at ??

Haven't looked into any alternative clutches mate but if I'd known my new one was gonna start showing signs of the juddering again so early on, I would have got another lol

I had the juddering, most pronounced when you pull away at speed.

I had a new clutch fitted which solved it. The clutch was SAKS branded (German, as used in VW, Audi, Mercedes) and was a superb clutch, the biting point was very low which helped fast gearchanges Wink

Car was sold, it had the original clutch replaced at 65k miles.
New clutch had only done about 1000 miles when I sold it.
