Hi
I have a 2002 Peugeot 206 (1.4 8v) that has done 70 000 miles.
I've only recently got it last week, from a second hand car dealer.
However when driving I've noticed I'm getting a really loud sloshing noise, coming from the engine bay, as if water is rocking from side to side or something. There's no particular pattern to it, but I think it is slightly linked with when I go round corners. It really sounds like a lot of water :S
I think its started ever since I squirted the windscreen washer stuff?
Does anyone know what it could be, or how to solve the problem.
Thanks!

i had something similar to this and it was where it was overheating. the water was boiling and that caused a sloshing sound. not sure if this is the same sort of problem but ive been tryin to sort mine for like 2 months and still no resoultion yet :/

Oh right, yea that could make sense, because a warning light comes on the dash and there's a loud beeping, when its used on longer journeys and the engine warms up.
It looks like an oil can light. Did think that might be a seperate problem as it looks like an oil light however?
When you say the water, do you mean the coolant/antifreeze?

Check your coolant levels! My old cavalier did this, my gasket went and was causing water to leak.

When she got the car, I checked it over, and found that the coolant had all frothed up, and was like a cappucino, in substance and colour! She had that changed under warrenty, but the sloshing is still there?
Its like a rocking, from side to side, but loudest when in the passenger seat.
Edit: the light that flashes on longer journeys is the oil pressure/temperature light? Any links to that?

Pugster thats exactly what it sounds like I think.
Ahh right, Im fairly certain it must be to do with coolant now.
Its not actually my car, so I'll check the levels when I have another look.
Would this also be linked to the problem of that warning light coming on?

How do I go about doing that, I've done it on a Clio but not on a 206?
Does anyone know Where are the bleed screws on a 2002 206 1.4 8v are?

Check the oil level with the dipstick under the bonnet & make sure its got the correct grade of oil in.
Make sure its got a genuine Peugeot / Citroen OR Purflux oil filter fitted.
Change the oil pressure sender.

if it is same problem, check coolant level before you go out and when you come back check the hoses for leak. Thats how i spotted the problem after i heard gushing of water. When pressure was applied the coolant was just drinking up and not returning back to the reservoir. I then noticed water underneath the the car coming from the radiator with the bottom hose leaking. just check any spillages around the car when parking up after pressure has been applied to send the coolant flowing
hope thats helps a little

The scuttle drain tubes are blocked, probably by leaves, causing a build up of rain water to slosh around the scuttle (the area below the windscreen wipers, under the bonnet)

Ive got the same problem - check my forum.
First and obvious thing is your Heater Matrix! You may have air in the coolant which could cause head gasket failure (did on mine) so get it checked for air asap. Just needs bleeding but dont ignore it.
