my speedo is stuck at 40mph when engine is off and fluctuates at 50 and above when driving. will disconecting the battery reset it??
99 spec gti...

Only one way to find out but sounds like it could be a sensor that's faulty, the cluster might be f#%*ed though

d/c batt. took cluster out & removed plastic glass & moved speed needle back to zero.. reconnected and all is working ok. so moving needle back to zero or d/c battery fixed it for me for now!!

It will be the plastic needle is loose on the metal shaft, common problem.
A tiny drop of superglue in the right place is the fix

the needle was stiff not loose when i moved it back to zero..

must have just got stuck, my fuel needle used to do it all the timebit of wd40 sorted it
