Hi guys and girls, just wondering if anyone can help.
Ive just come away on a 200mile journey on the motorway,,the last 30 miles for some reason the front driver side wheel has started a really high ptched sqeal when turning leftt,it can only ben a light bend in the road but its pretty loud.
Im asking really if it sounds serious as ive the same 200 mile trip home on sunday,,its a 1.4lx 52plate peaugeot.
what ive noticed is if im going round a light left hand bend its shuts up when i lightly press the brake, with my left foot (still exelerating slightly).
Pads was done about 5k ago for info and had new disc.
Sorry i have a highish postcount on here but i cant rememebr my log in details,so has to reregister!
please any advice,,thanks and merry xmas

its proberly on its way out after 170 mile if its not got alot of greese in i should imagen it would be quite hot hence the noise on the last 30 mile. no one can say how long it will last really, if you really have to drive it home 300 mile i would set off very early and take regular stops to let it cool down. (if it is the bearing!)

Probably just a pad-squeal from the pads as they make light contact with the disc, get it checked, but i dont think its anything to worry about.

thanks, thats a little reasuring..just thought a little more, there is no vibration through the wheel,,,did a little googling anf read,,when you break and it squeals its the pads,,when it squeals and then stops when you brake its the bearing, the braking i suppost to straighten the wheel for a a while till it then goes back to of centre or somthin,,cant find it now it was on yahoo answers.

first of all merry christmas to everyone!
seconf ive jacked up car, cant feel any play top to bottom on wheel,
took wheel of and turned round, cant hear any grinding noise.
only noise is on every rotation on the disc the pad seems to be catching then once it gets past this little bit,it spins free.think my cavy does this though.
now next is there seems to be an emence amount of black oily/greasy residue all round the outside of the wheel spokes and inside of the wheel,,infact its on all ball joints etc..but where the bearing sits is dry as a bone, also ive checked the boot carfully and no split, shocker is dry and no brake leaks.??
now the gease is also on the other passenger side all over wheel,,brake dust mixed with snow damp maybe??
maybe i hit some crap on the one of the many dark A roads i come down i dont know

The black'ish grease is from out of the CV (constant velocity) joint because the boot has split, you need a new boot kit asap otherwise the joint will quickly run dry and leave you needing a whole new drive shaft.

thats what i thought,,i have tripled checked the boot and i cant see any split in the boot at all,,i cleaned it of with a towel, turned wheel on both locks, and really inspected,i cant see even the tinyest of splits in it.
Its weird there is no grease around the leg area where the cv joint goes through, just everywhere else, its actually on the face of the alloy..
I changed the cv joint ont my cavy a few weeks back, and that was all over the half shaft.
But a little update-took it for a spin today and did 11 miles,,with no noise at all,i rand a mate who works for national breakdown,he recons its the bearing, but thinks it will get me back providing i stop a fair bit.
