Hey everyone,

Problem with my faithful (up till now) 1.4HDI 206, was driving up to work today, 45 mile trip, got around 40 miles of the way and the engine management light came on. Bit of a shock as I've not had it come on before. No other lights just the management one.

The car was going fine so just carried on to get into work. However got around another 2 miles and the car suddenly lost all power and cut out as I put my foot down to overtake someone.

Bit scary at this point i pulled over to the hard shoulder and tried to fire it again which it did, revved up freely, EML still on, so limped into work and that was that.

At lunch came out the disconnected the battery for half hour and reconnected but still the light was on.

Left work and limped on home (didnt go over 55mph and got back) however, when i was on the back roads to my house I had a play with the throttle and its now got to the point if its revved over 2250rpm when driving it just cuts out. When its just idleing and you rev it up it only revs to 2500rpm.

I know it was cold this morning (-5 degrees c) but wouldnt of thought it would of hurt the car driving in the cold as it been running fine all week given the temperatures of the big freeze.

Car has been absolutely brilliant up untill now, all serviced up around 2000miles ago, (Cambelt, oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter.)

Anyone shed any light on my problem or have experienced this before on a hdi?

didn't think this was possible in a 1.4 HDi Shocked

you car is in limp mode how, have to get the code read before you can do anything

yes thats was my initial thought, hopefully got someone on the case tomorrow, just thought i would enquire if anyone had come across this before.

if this is the case its the inlet temp sensor thats gone due to it being so cold.

onvery interested in your probably. got exactly same car and same fault. have had thoughts about primary fuel pump low pressure, as car will tick over ok,but will cut out when revved above 2500 rpm. not sure though.after a few secs car will start and run at tick over but same again when revved. are the fuel pumps a known fault? cheers

sorry, should have updated this when I sorted the problem.

Took my 206 into a friend with a snap on code reader box and he plugged it in and found there were 3 faults all relating to fuel rail pressure. Anyways, he cleared them and we fired up the car and I took it for drive.

We guessed that it was down to the diesel freezing in the pipes therefore not getting enough up to the rail thus loosing pressure.

No problems up to now and the car is running fine (touch wood)...

thanks for that. i need to get the codes read,but my probably started before the cold snap. drove it home from where it broke down,yesterday, it drove ok for about 3 miles, then cutout,restarted, then drove another 0.5 miles,cutout again.gave up and towed it home. do u think it's still in limp mode? didn't rev it above 2,000 rpm

hmmm, I drove mine 45 miles at 55mph all the way when it was playing up but i couldn't accelerate over 2500rpm. Got worse to drive as the engine got warmer (i.e. down on acceleration power).

Until you get the codes read and cleared you wont know what's up with it. If there is a problem then the engine light will come on again and you will be able to tell the definite problem code therfore finding the problem/component.
