Hi,
I have a 206 s 1.4, 2004 registered and have a problem with the reversing lights not working.
I have checked the bulbs and fuse. I have also disconnected the connector from the revesing light switch on the gearbox. I have 12v to one of the pine and have checked the continuity of the switch with the gears in reverse and nuetral and all is well there.
Looking at the haynes wiring diagram the circuit goes through the pasenger fuse box/BSI.
I am slightly hampered in my fault finding at the moment as I broke my arm a couple of weeks ago and it is V dificult working with one hand.
I managed to remove the black 16pin connector and have checked that I have continuity between the output of the passenger fuse box/BSI (pin 7) and the light cluster and there is continuity, so my thoughts are that the problem may be in the fuse box/BSI unit.
My next step is to try to remove the green connector and check for a voltage into the unit.
My question is though, does anybody have information on the internals of the BSI unit. a circuit diagram would be very useful. I do not really understand why the reversing light circuit really needs to pass through the unit at all as it is a simple light circuit with a switch and a fuse in line.

did you tried to connect the 2 wires together,to make an open circuit, and see if the reverse light goes on or not??,because maybe the switch itself is faulty.
by the way, sorry to hear about your arm, hope you get well soon.

The BSI controls all the electrics within the car, its the ECM for them.
Have you ran a positive feed to the reverse bulbs them selves to rule out a earthing problem?

That's the first thing to try
Bet the local Peugeot / Citroen dealer has a switch in stock

I am having the same problem but it is not the switch, bulb or fuse. How did you get on? Any ideas for me?

You need to give us a clue to what year of 206 you have as there 2 totaly different electrical systems used on the 206 & they each have there own issues when it comes to fault finding.

It's a '04 1.4hdi. Had another look this evening and now know the bulbs, switch and the fuse in the engine box are fine but still no joy in getting it working. Any ideas?

You have shorted out the white 2 pin connector on the reverse light switch & then turned the ignition on?
You have checked the bulbs are ok with a multimeter & making good contact with the sprung terminal in the bulb holder?
F1 10 amp fuse in the BM34 fusebox checked with a multimeter?
If your 100% sure all the above is ok then its scan time with Peugeot Planet as the BSI unit controls the reversing lights.

Thanks for that. Yes I have tried all of the above so I think it must be something to do with the BSI unit.
I have tried to reboot my BSI unit but to no avail...I also had a problem last year when I lost my key fob. I got a new one and got the chip reprogrammed but I couldn't get the remote locking to program using the manufacturers instructions. I presume this is controlled by the BSI unit as well. Could these two issues point to a faulty BSI? Because I couldn't programme the remote locking the reboot of the BSI doesn't seem to work either.

BSI controls the remote locking.
Is it the correct type remote fob for the car?
Choice of 2, they look exactly the same from the outside BUT there not interchangeable.
A replacement remote fob can ONLY be programed to the car with diagnostic kit.
The manuafcturers instructions you followed where to resynce a fob after a battery change / battery disconnection, you CANNOT code a replacement fob using those instructions

The circuit board should be reprogrammable to the central locking, its just the transponder that isn't as far as I know. Not 100% tho

Sounds like he already has a replacement remote fob & coded the transponder ok but not the remote fob

Have you worked out your price for travelling to him yet Lee? Even you doing it would be cheaper than the dealership.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I did buy a new fob but took it to a friendly garage that coded the transponder chip for me. It is just the remote locking part of it that doesn't work. As far as i am aware the remote locking bit can be programmed at home but I am not sure if I have the correct fob or not. I actually bought two from different places as i was not sure if the first one was faulty. I didn't realise that there was two different types. How can you tell the difference if you want to order one.
As far as the reverse light is concerned I have decided i might just bypass the BSI unit and rewire it by splicing into a different ignition controlled live wire. I don't mind if the BSI unit is faulty if the only damage caused is a dodgy reverse light and the remote locking not working. I can live with that.
If it get's to the point I need to take it to a peugeot dealer i will just send you the boat fare!
