i have a slight water leak on my 180 and it appears to be coming from where the water pump housing bolts the water pump i think does anyone have any diagrams or pics for this or know how hard it is to remove the water pump housing? thanks

When was the cam belt done? As you would normally replace the water pump at the same time.....thus killing 2 birds with one stone.

not long ago and no didnt change that, didnt even come to mind tbh, i havnt checked the water since iv owned the car and while the car was in the garge it froze up (no antifreeze) and now it has defrosted has started to leak so im guessing thers a seal or somthing broke.

as mikey said, if it wasnt changed when the belt was done the new belt would wear the old pump out faster
could be a costly mistake as the 180 is a pain in the ass to do and can cost alot of money as its labour intensive

No it wouldn't.
Is the pump itself leaking or where the pipe at the back of the engine enters the pump?

Yes they do, do a upgrade one and its not £50 its round £70 from dealer.
If the cambelt was replaced only 5000 or so miles ago i would just remove the belt and replace water pump and refit the belt, but if the water has been leaking on to the cambelt or the car has done alot miles since the cambelt was changed then best to replace the cambelt again, and the other thing is that the tensioner some weaker every thing you remove and instill it i have find which ant good really.
Iv seen alot of water pumps leak now on gti 180s when i have been doing cambelt on these's and i will never change a cambelt with out doing the water pump aswell, they normaly leak from the seal behind the pully where the shaft sticks out.
If you need the water pump doing am sure i could sort this out for you
Regards
Kyle

Well how would a new belt wear the pump more? The belt only touches the pulley which never wears out. The bearings and seals wear out and the fact a new belt is fitted won't make a difference to the wear rate.

The KWP water pumps from Euro Car Parts come with metal impeller. They also appear to now come with the outlet pipe too which they didn't used to.
