Had an ABS light appear on the dashbaord yesterday which isn't going off. When starting the car it now says ABS Fault. I will probably get this checked out being the brakes but any heads up on what the cuase may be?
Its been wet on the roads lately, maybe something electrical has malfunctioned near the brakes?

The ABS ring on the driveshaft could have been damaged, or the electrical connector may have come loose/damaged.

Or a fault with the ABS pump its self, but that is rare.

More than likely ABS ring as mentioned. Easier to change the whole CV joint as they come with the rings attached

Cheers for the advice, went out in the car just now and it felt like the pads were slipping when braking (could that be the ABS ring though?). Also the spedometer stopped working until the ABS light came back on mid drive and it kicked back in.

It sounds like you need a new CV joint or driveshaft.

Could that be caused by pot holes? Loads of them on the road lately, you wonder why you pay road tax?

Any idea how it may be related to the speedometer?

I would assume that if it was the ABS ring/CV joint etc then the ABS light should go out once sorted so it shouldn't need any diags done on it or reset?

The car reads the speeds through the ABS system so i have heard.

You will not need the light cancelling out it will do this as you drive down the road and it picks the signal up again.

EDIT: It does seem strange that the speedo stopped working, I have had a few ABS rings go but never had the speedo stop.

It did not stop dead it kind of showed 2/5 of the speed, ie. showing 20mph instead of 50mph+

When a replacement ABS ring is required is it due to the teeth wearing or some other fault?

Its noramally due to the ring cracking there for the sensor will misread it.

They are not hard to check so i would start with that.

Still going to be £70 if you get the CV joint done, just dont let the gargaes tell you you need a full drive shaft, they got me with that the first time Confused

I have a pretty reliable honest local garage who are good. £20 to fit an exhaust, £15 to for a new coil on the missus Renault Scenic.

How will I know I don't need a full drive shaft though? thats the problem.
